I am so baffled on what to make as a snack

On thanksgiving my husbands family wrote out a menu and we all signed up to bring things. They asked if I would do a snack. Sure can! But what! Such a dilemma for me. Snacks are at 2pm dinner is at 3pm. My family doesn’t do that we just set a specific time and that’s dinner when we eat. Any snack I can think of is like considered junk food. I thought maybe some homemade bread like sweet potato bread but they are having crescent rolls as part of dinner so I’m not sure they would want bread as a snack. His sister signed up as a snack to make a charcuterie board. That rules out me being able to do like hummus and crackers. I could definitely use some advice on this! The photo is completely unrelated. It’s a door handle I saw while eating at a restaurant back in September.

Would a shrimp ring go over with the crowd? That was the first thing that came to my mind as I read your dilemma. Or an artichoke dip with some nice little flatbread dippers, that was another thought.

@juliaacv I think only my father in law and stepson eat shrimp . If my stepson was going to be here to thanksgiving that would be something easy I could buy and take. Maybe for Christmas. My stepson is in the marines and won’t be home until Christmas time. My sister in law made an amazing artichoke dip for our last gathering so I don’t want to do that I’ll feel like I’m copying. I did decide on a ricotta cheese dip though.

Can you make some mini quiches or bake some cases out of bread and fill them with something - white/cheese sauce with bacon and corn or maybe buy vol-au-vent cases and fill them with something. You might find inspiration on YouTube.

May I ask what vol-au-vent cases are? I never heard the term.

@LovesEverybody They are little pastry cases. You can make them with puff pastry but they're very fiddly. It's easier to buy them and just fill them yourself. Here is a photo from Wikimedia courtesy of Roozitaa

What about just veggies and dip..or I like Amber's idea down below of a cheeseball. I would ask hubby if he has any ideas, because I am sure whatever you make he will decide it is the "wrong thing.". Another thing people always seem to rave about is stuffed bacon wrapped dates.

@snowy22315 my family doesn’t do snacks first so it’s a bit odd for me to do this with my in laws especially them wanting three different snacks. I only have to come up with one thankfully.

@snowy22315 I like to make something new usually and I made the bacon wrapped date for Xmas last year. I’ve mentioned three times now I’m have a hard time thinking of something to make and he hasn’t said a word. Do you think veggies and dip would be acceptable for a thanksgiving snack? Personally I love them!

@shaggin I don't see why not. It isn't like you need alot to eat.

@wolfgirl569 i would love it but I’m not sure they would. It’s always served at summer gatherings so I’m not sure what they would think of it at thanksgiving. Then again my mother in law is making deviled eggs at her granddaughters request. Thats a really strange one for a thanksgiving dinner I thought. I’ve had to name them 6 times for parties over the summer i don’t even want to look at them .

I was going to suggest salami, Swiss and olives; but with someone making a charcuterie board, that rules out a lot of food. What about a dip of some sort. Either cold or hot. That might be something different. Good luck. Have a good weekend.

@Lindaohio I have settled on making a ricotta dip and I’m thinking of doing a pecan pie dip as well.

@LindaOHio my mother in law vetoed the pecan pie dip saying they have desserts covered. I wanted it for a snack not a dessert but if they think their three desserts is enough and don’t want mine whatever my mother will appreciate it instead!

I would love to help you, but all my family has is turkey, stuffing, green beans, and cranberry sauce. Maybe you can look up recipes that use cranberry sauce. nothing says Thanksgiving like cranberry sauce You are a great cook and I am positive you will decide on something that everybody will love!

@LovesEverybody your family is pretty small so the smaller menu would be fine. There will be 14 of us at my mother in laws where I am trying to decide what snack to make.

@Dreamerby looks similar to what I was picturing. My grandfather used to eat puffed wheat cereal. Looks similar to what you guys have puffed rice.

@shaggin No. It's something really cheap and easily available here. Here's how it's made.
