I hope I didn't create a monster

So, Nico is not really a fan of being picked up, but I managed to capture him and hold him for a few minutes. I put him down on the bar stool below the kitchen counter for a minute. Next thing I know he was on the countertop. He stayed up there a good 5 minutes checking it out, and looking for anything spilled or dropped. Now that he knows it is interesting up there, I hope he doesn't make a habit of running around on them. I don't think he will use the barstool as a launch pad, because it is not as secure as he would like.

@akalinus As a rule, but he is probably afraid to jump. Some cats are big jumpers and others not so much.

Nico isn't a big fan of high places and he doesn't really care much for jumping up high. He does love food however, and I think the smells might attract him.

We have a large cat tree near the glass doors. They can sit in several spots to look out and there are some beds that they can crawl into when they want. One cat likes to sit on top of the freezer. They do like it up high.

I hope he doesn't do too much exploring up there. I don't want to find cat hair everywhere.

@snowy22315 I hope so too. I watch some videos before about cats that they build them spaces in the walls where they can go up like their own aisle or hallway

So far he hasn't been back up there. He is more interested in the possibility of getting up close and personal with a squirrel. There was one right up against the full length windows.

@TheHorse Our cats go bonkers over geckos. The cats sit and look out the glass doors and get agitated every time they see one. They are only a few inches long.

How sweet! I let my Onyx on the dining table as much as he wants. he gets up there several times a day. if I am sitting at the table reading or writing, he will jump up and rub noses with me! My hamster, Marty, who passed used to run my nose with his every morning. All my pets seem to like to give me nose rubs and initiate them! Give Nico a big, friendly Meow from Onyx!

He looked at me when I did...he says Hi back..He just had some lunch or an early dinner, and has now parked himself in another room and is staring at me.

@LovesEverybody Yeah, maybe around 7. His bowl is always out though. He eats when he is hungry. He isn't overweight so I think it is fine.

@snowy22315 how sweet he is! He made Onyx's day! Onyx has an early dinner as he acts as if i don't feed him! then he gets so persistent i had to write down and start to give him fresh water and a couple of few bites of food before bed on my routine so he would let me sleep Does Nico get a snack in the evening (Onyx's is about 5 p.m.)

Sort of, he was living in a vet's office. They had several cats up for adoption. I wanted to get two younger kittens but somebody got those. Then I wanted to adopt Nico and his brother, but the brother was adopted separately.

Our cat could easily jump from the floor to the countertop but she knew it was a no-go area so she didn't often bother.

Nico doesn't show alot of interest in high places other than the top bunk in another room and his perch

If I had a cat, the countertops would be off limits. I hope he doesn't decide that's a good place to explore!!! Have a good day.

They are pretty hard. to dissuade from what they want to do. I was always telling my last cat to get down.

He hasn't..The things he would steal would probably be cat treats and savory items.

cats learn fast, I'd make sure that the bar stools are not where he can use them cause he will if he gets the chance, cats aren't stupid by no means.

I am not moving them.Like I said, they aren't very secure. He isn't gonna use those for a launch, and unlike most cats he really doesn't care much for jumping. He likes the floor where it is safe, or his perch which he climbs on.
