11/11/24 - Update On My Husband

I visited my husband yesterday. He seemed fine and only had a minute of confusion; so it looks like he has sundowners. His care is terrible. He still hasn't had a shower (he's been there 3 weeks); and he was lying on a soiled sheet. I will be calling the nurses' station today. I'm looking for a place for him; but so far the places I've looked at have 2-1/2 or 3 stars. It won't matter if they don't honor his insurance because it will be self-pay. He said he's not doing as well in physical therapy. That's not good news. Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

Clearly they are understaffed and this is not the facility for him nor anyone.

@LindaOHio — and this is a “4-star facility”??!!?

Yesterday my husband was way down in the bed and all crooked. I hit the call button to have someone come and help him move up in the bed. All she did was tip the bed. He had to do most of the moving himself.

@FourWalls Except on the BBB. The BBB rates them at an F with 14 1-star reviews.

Very concerning. He can easily get an infection with the catheter in anyway, add in the fact he is not given showers and has to lie in soiled bedding is unbelievable. Call the social worker, the person in charge, anyone else you can think of!! At this point, I would call the TV station there and have them do a story on the neglect!! I hope you can get him out of there, today. This is heartbreaking and terrible. I am so sad for you and for him.

The social worker is going to tell the administrator plus we complained to one of the nurses.

@MarieCoyle They showered him yesterday! On the BBB website I found that other people complained about residents not being showered, terrible food, etc.

@LindaOHio Oh, good. I would think the administration would not want to be out of compliance and would know that cleanliness is crucial when someone is as frail as he is.

Why can't he go back to where he was before? Even if he doesn't get PT it seems his overall care was better. I am with Chicca I would have insisted he get a shower while I was there. Unless you make noises his care is never going to improve. If they think you don't care, they certainly won't.

@snowy22315 Yes they did. He is getting PT at the new place; but my husband says he's not doing as well as he was. He has to keep up the PT if he has any chance of some day coming home.

I have the feeling the nurses do not take good care of your husband, this is not a facility where he can stay.

oh my. If he has not been showered for that long, I am sure that it will add to what he is feeling with a soiled sheet at that. I hope you can place him somewhere else

The care there is indeed awful . . . I hope you can find a better place for him and asap! My dad was rushed into a terrible rehab facility (the hospital case worker told us that's all that was available and insurance was about to run out). After about 2 weeks, he had to go back to the hospital. Talking to the hospital head and another doctor later on, they themselves could have recommended better facilities that they personally dealt with had they known at the time. I am hoping you can find people/professionals/advocates with inside info who can help you with this important search - it'd probably go a lot faster anyway.

@FourWalls I told him to move over and that I was going to stay with him at the facility. Except that they are really terrible with taking care of the residents. He finally had a shower yesterday after 3 weeks! But I had to complain 2x to get them to act.

In my note they were thinking he had dementia. That was way back in February though. I am assuming with you mentioning confusion and sun downers that dementia was confirmed?
