Happy Veteran's Day, myLot

According to the Department of Veteran's Affairs website, Veteran's Day is, "a celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good," and I think that's a pretty good way to sum it up. Many people get the days confused between Memorial Day and Veteran's Day. Memorial Day is to honor those who died in the service of their country, and Veteran's Day is to honor everyone who has served, alive or dead. I like to say, "I am more honored to have served than to be honored for having served." But Veteran's Day is a day that if I am out in public, I always make it a point do don my ship's hat with my crow on it. I served on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) from 1992 to 1996. My dad was a 23-year navy veteran, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. My sister served 10 years in the Air Force and got out as a staff seargeant. My grandfather on my mom's side served in the Army during WWII, and my uncle on my mom's side was a Marine. My dad's father was a Merchant Marine, which weren't part of the armed forces, but assisted the armed forces. So, we have a long line of veterans in our family. Incidentally, I tried on my old jumper top from when I was in the Navy, and amazingly I got it on. It wasn't easy, mind you. I'm not the skinny guy I was when I was in my 20s. Getting it off was another story, however. Happy Veteran's Day, myLot to anyone here who served. My hat goes off to you. ***VIDEO IS NOT MONETIZED!!!***

Happy Veteran’s Day! Hope it was a good one. Would be nice if we stayed skinny all of our lives. Some are lucky in that department. I’m not one of them.

I think when I was in the navy I was about 130 pounds. Now I am more like 175, so not nearly as trim as I used to be. Oh well. lol.

@porwest — you were full of SH??? I got my new refrigerator for about $15 more than the list price on the website because of the veterans discount. That means the discount paid the taxes and delivery charges!

Hey, hey. I was an SH, but I see how you got there, yeoman. lol I never take advantage of veteran deals or discounts. I am weird like that. I mean, it doesn't mean I never partake. If they are offered I take the offer, but I never look for them or ask for them. EVEN being as cheap as I am, go figure. lol

@FourWalls Well, I was supposed to be a QM, but it's a story I can't share here since it is on another site and is monetized. lol. Great you were able to use a discount on a high ticket item.

Thank you. Much appreciated. Honored to have served. Alongside many Filipinos to boot. We had a lot of them in the navy.

Happy Veterans Day. Love the picture and thank you for your service. My family was a few uncles who served in the army but most were navy.

The navy holds a special place for me. I admit I may have some bias regarding that. Thank you.

Your family has a very worthwhile tradition. I know about trying to get out of something that is a bit too tight. It's certainly not easy.

I was just happy not to have to use a pair of scissors to get out of it. That may have devastated me.

I discussed this with my students yesterday. I was very pleased that my 5th graders understood the difference in the two holidays. They understood before I explained, which means their parents are doing their jobs at home.
