You need this after enduring Webb Pierce. This is one that a lot of people seem to love, and I certainly do. It’s definitely a top 20 song if I had to put these in that kind of order. Here’s today’s “total opposite of the country song” tune.
Sister Golden Hair - America
Hey, both of these songs were #1 at least!
Gerry Beckley said this was inspired by Jackson Browne’s music. If you think about it, you can hear Browne’s inspiration in this. (If they’d used Browne for an inspiration a little more, that “Horse With No Name” would have HAD a name! )
This is a song that will transport me back to that house we lived in on Oleander Avenue in Daytona Beach. That’s where I first heard it, and the happiness of this song combined with the joyous innocence of living near the beach (and across the street from my best friend) is simply magical.
One of my favorite songs, chart or no chart.
Sister Golden Hair
Written by Gerry Beckley
Recorded by America
From Hearts, 1975
Peak chart position: #1
Today’s country song: “Slowly”
I ain’t ready for the altar:

They had plenty of great songs. “Daisy Jane” is another favorite of mine, but it bombed on the charts.
