11/12/24 - Update On My Husband

The social worker called yesterday to tell me that since we lost the appeal we owed 2 days @ $204 and the next month @ $318 per day. While I had her on the phone I told her about my husband still not getting a shower.. She said she would advise the administrator. They gave my husband a shower after that!!!!! I am looking for another place for my husband. Since we are self-pay, it won't make any difference if they don't accept our insurance. After he leaves I will be reporting the current place to the Ombudsman. I found the phone number of the woman who works through the hospital to find a rehab facility. I will call her to see if she can help with facility names. I got a call from Life Alert yesterday. They are the best because their pendants have a 10-year battery. The pushy salesman said that the monthly rate was $109 per month. They really should be ashamed of themselves. He wouldn't take "no" for an answer; and I ended up having to hang up on him. He called back with an offer of $69/month with less benefits. When I told him "no" he got real snippy, said "Good luck!" and hung up. So far Medical Guardian seems to be the next best choice. Their batteries don't have to be charged until 5-7 days...and you can get a back-up pendant to wear while the other one is charging. With extras like Fall Detection, etc. it will probably be around $50 per month, maybe more. They are having a Thanksgiving dinner at the facility but it is on November 21 not the 28th. My husband's 2nd cousin said she will still cook a meal for Thanksgiving. OMG. I just checked the facility on the BBB (Better Business Bureau) website; and they have an "F" rating with 14 1-star reviews. I will be adding mine to the mix...and they have the same complaints that I do. I do have some good news on the horizon; but I won't tell until it happens. Photo Credit: Pixabay

Keeping my fingers crossed that you find a good place for your husband soon. With those kinds of ratings, this current facility gets a big thumbs down and should be closed down. Wishing for better days ahead .

That place sounds as though it should be shut down! Hope you find the service you need without the pushy sales people. That is something I really hate - I will pay more to go to somewhere else rather than be forced into a deal!

Damn, I was thinking that they were better than the other 1 I just don't get why nursing centers don't do the job that's required for the elderly that need their assistance everyday. I remember when I got in the 1 I was in they had a over sized mattress on the bed that I had to tell them about & showed them that if I sat on it I wasn't on the frame that I could slip & that wouldn't be good to change it. I have to say that the care I got was very good & if I had a nurse or someone that had a attitude with me I had no problem in getting them to stay out of my room. If I needed something & rang the bell (buzzer-light ) it didn't take them very long to tend to my needs, BUT I know a lot of places aren't the same & I've heard a lot of horror stories about other places, it's not fair.

I wish I would have remembered to check the BBB. I always check it before hiring a contractor.

@LindaOHio Don't beat yourself UP over it You have so much on your plate you can't think, I would have done the same thing & to be honest I don't think my husband even thought about it when I got sick. So your not the only 1 that makes mistakes or can't think about everything, we all do.

Sounds like they padded their reviews at the place you initially looked.

oh wow, an F rating? Sorry to hear that!! That's good they finally gave him the shower but stinks they had to be told... $50-ish a month would not be too bad compared to the $100 price point.... Curious on the good news

I sure hope you can find a place for your husband soon. I wonder why there is a BBB as they don't seem to do much about problems with businesses, just rate them. You would think that if a place is actually doing things they shouldn't or not doing things they should that they would report that to the right entity to see about getting whatever it is fixed. JMO. When I had a problem with the gas company over charging me, I went to the Consumer Protection Division. The BBB wouldn't do anything but take my complaint. The Consumer Protection Division actually looked into the problem and gave me a case #. If I don't get help on the first rung of the ladder I keep climbing till I DO get some help. Help is there...you just have to keep trying. I hope all goes well for you and your husband. Prayers for you both.

If you did not tell her about the shower, they will not act on giving him a shower. The salesman attitude was superb! I hate him.

At least your husband got a shower. I'm sure he feels better after that. I'm not surprised to hear that that place got an F. It's surprising they are still able to be open and operate under such horrible conditions. Hope you can find a better place since you are self pay and that your husband will get quality care and you won't be so stressed. I'm really looking forward to your good news Linda

Just another example of a world we live in where customer service is not even considered. Just give us the money, take what we offer, and shut up. You were right to shut the guy down completely. Same goes for the facility. What a crap service for a lot of money. It never ends. Best of luck to you in all of this.
