The school has implemented several new initiatives over the past couple of years--mental health awareness, kindness, good attendance, etc. Now we are starting a new one this week: college sweatshirt day!
The plan is to have staff wear the sweatshirts from their colleges to highlight the importance and value of education. That isn't to say that anyone would dismiss the value of vocational schools, trades, etc. but the focus actually has fallen away from higher education in recent years.
I went to Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. (I think our buddy @DianneN 's husband actually taught there for a bit) I went to Catholic elementary school but then public schools for middle and high school. I don't know what possessed me to go to a small, private, and Catholic university but there you go. It was *very* small back then and going through some growing pains as it expanded and moved from Division 2 to Division 1 sports.
I don't have complaints about my college experience (aside from the lingering student loan payments!). I have seen several students in the past couple of years wearing SHU shirts. I looked at their web site last week and couldn't believe how HUGE the building on campus has become. It is really cool. I'm sure many students will be surprised to see what school I will be representing on Thursday.

Honestly, college sweatshirt day sounds like a great idea. I am sure the kids will be interested and ask some questions.

It really has. When I was in high school, they kept pushing college on us. I personally never went, but that doesn't mean that the concept wasn't shoved down my throat. Now it seems like a joke.
I hope this subtle approach works.
