A friend in Scotland

I just called a friend in Scotland to wish her a happy birthday. Winnie and I were in 7th and 8th grades together in Jersey City, NJ.
Those two years we were stationed there (my father was in the Coast Guard) were some of my very best times. I had a little group and we used to ride bikes in a nearby park (in the middle of a huge city!), stop for pizza and a Coke, get lunch at a next door deli, and sometimes go to the library and stores downtown.
I had my first kiss in the stair well of the apartment building we lived in. Rudy was the cutest boy in our class and he even wrote me a little poem. I thought I was the geekiest girl in the class, but I guess he didn't think so.
Years ago I tried to locate him on FaceBook, but he had died of cancer. Winnie and I are the only two from that group to keep in touch over the years. She's still hoping to come for a visit before long....sure hope she can. Hope I can stay well long enough!
Do you have a special friend you've kept up with for years?

I do, my best friend from when I was six. We went to the same church, and then to the same school. Thirty-seven years later, and we are still in contact. We aren’t best friends anymore as I moved, and went to college at sixteen, but she texted me just the other day to tell me she was praying for me. We definitely keep in touch.
I sure hope Winnie gets to come visit soon. It would be such a bright spot.

You're very blessed to have a good friend that long. With Winnie's accent and my hearing loss, it's a wonder we had such a great conversation!

You are beautiful and I bet you were stunning back then when Rudy kissed you . It’s always sad when you find out someone you knew passed away that way after you hoped to catch up .
Your time in that city sounded so nice. It must have been very hard when you had to leave.

It really was hard to leave my friends. I was shy and never made friends in school easily, but this little gang all liked me.

That's good to keep in touch, though.
