Good morning! First a huge apology for not posting a discussion. i had a hard time staying away all morning yesterday as i had two hours of sleep and had slept poorly for many nights but i had to stay up to see my peer. I was in bed before 4 in the afternoon. i couldn't think straight! On to today's discussion! Today would have been my parent's 50th wedding anniversary! My mom loved jewelry. She had a 1-carat diamond ring and wanted a 2-carat ring. My dad kept promising her for sure he would get her that ring but it would have to wait to be a 50th anniversary present from him. They were like newlyweds for their entire marriage. ( as an aside i never married because I don't think it was possible to be as happy as a couple as my parents were) But sadly my mom never got that ring because my dad died long before the big anniversary. then she died too. Since both are up in Heaven enjoying eternity together. My question is did my dad get her that ring she wanted so much? I will not know until I see them when I die, but I want today Happy 50th Anniversary Mommy and Daddy! Were you ever promised a gift and for some reason or another didn't get it?

they really were. My mom saw my dad in her freshman yearof high school (he was a two years older than her) the day she saw him she told my sister and i repeatedly that that she knew that my dad was the man she was going to marry. She waited while he was in the Army in Germany for three years but she wanted nobody else. Sometimes i feel i should have looked for a man or gone on at least one day to look for somebody that special when i was her age. But i am happy so that thought goes away

That is wonderful they had such a good marriage. I am glad they are together for eternity. My parents have been married for 68 years! I think they have a good chance of reaching 70. Happy though, not really. I always felt they were emotionally divorced in a lot of ways.

@LovesEverybody Well, not now cuz my dad has Alzheimers and my mom is always complaining about everything he does. She can be a real monster.

@LovesEverybody Yeah, sorry your mom was treating you that way. That must have been very hurtful, she was just under stress. However, that really isn't an excuse. Whenever you suggest a support group or doing something different to my mom, she doesn't want to hear about it. That is whats frustrating, and my sister won't help with talking to her at all. She just ignores her bad behavior which doesn't work with her.

That is a long time to be married! yes, i am glad they get to spend eternity together. I hope your parents reach 70 as that is such a milestone. i don't remember if anybody in my family were married that long. everybody but my aunt and uncle and my cousins passed a long time ago, my family is extremely small. Hopefully, your parents are happy and just don't appear happy but really are happy. i don't know anything about romance to have a correct opinion

You have to be very lucky to have such a marriage. I often have said that I never deserved my husband. Yet my daughters, never got partners half as good as mine.

@Dreamerby I totally agree it is a blessing. Sometimes I feel as if I missed out on something by not having a relationship like my parents

i agree. i have read so many books where the couple gets married and a year later they are divorced. It is sad when a marriage doesn't last. Both my parents were madly in love with each other.

What a wonderful love story. I can see why you cherish their memories like you do. You know, some promises never get fullfilled because they can't, like your Dad. It wasn't meant to be? I don't know that, of course. But the ring doesn't matter in the end, it was the love they shared and passed on to you and your sister. Oh, yes, I was promised a lot of things by someone. I discovered a lot of people promise things but they are not sincere. Things aren't really important compared to how people treat you, and that they love you.

@MarieCoyle Yes, their love was rare and they were an example to everybody who ever fell in love. Amazingly, i never fell in love even with their example.

Yes, I do have a lot of memories of what love truly means when it comes to romance. I lived vicariously through them about what a committed romantic relationship was. I never thought of it like that for the ring. However, my case manager told me the streets of Heaven are paved with gold. so my dad is probably gathering up some of that gold. He was a thoughtful kind of guy and he and the whole family knew she adored jewelry. she was always ordering jewelry from those channels that one can order all kinds of things and have them sent to your house. (she never sent for things from Amazon though which i am thinking now is strange as she loved to order things I love your statement that things aren't important to how they treat you and that they love you they did treat each other with such love. they never had fights or stopped talking. there was never any reason to

I know you miss your parents but they are happy up there. Life without the better half is depressing especially as age catches on.
