Why don't I promote my music locally more often?

I just bought some beer at my local gas station. Inside I ran into a fella I know who may wind up fixing my truck door. He told me he had just sent my take on Townes's "Pancho and Lefty" to a club owner friend of his. The guy liked it.
When I am on the road, I sometimes promote my music by giving out my card, which has a YouTube link to "Pancho and Lefty" on it. In Chicago, I scared a couple of ladies at a bus stop, but wound up with a comment on "Your Mind is on Vacation" from one of them. Actually, it's not my card. It's a card made by Debbie for The Diablo Rhythm Wranglers, a band I quit a few years ago.
Anyway, I'll link a Diablo Rhythm Wranglers song some of you may not heard. I sing lead and play bass on this one. Indulge me and be a psychologist for a moment: Why do I self-promote then I am "on the road," but not here in the Bay Area, where there are about five times as many people as there are in the entire state of Montana?
I'll see if I can get a decent picture of the card with my cell phone.

I think you should find a cafe or club to play your music to customers at least twice a month, Then who knows you could become really popular,
