I don't understand my neighbor

This is the one downstairs who I am very friendly with. She is on permanent disability and supposedly has to live on $2000/month. That isn't even possible here in New Jersey when you live alone let alone when you have a 17 year old son.
She is able to earn like $1200 more via a part time job. In the time I've known her she has had at least 5 but she winds up quitting them after a few weeks or months for one stupid reason or another. She is constantly complaining about not being able to pay her bills and is always asking her sister to help her. She mentions it often which I assume is her way of trying to get me to help her out but that isn't happening.
She recently got hired at a UPS store and went in on Monday. After that she said she wasn't taking the job because "the energy was bad". Um why not keep the job for now and look for another one in the meantime? If she is "struggling to survive" as she just texted me then why not take the job?
Oh well. To each their own. If she is enjoying the stress and struggle then I guess she should just keep doing what she is doing.

It maybe hard to live on 2,000/month if she put in the work and effort. I don't think she knows how to take care of herself or her son. And, wants everything handed to her. The idea of actually working and doing for herself is anxiety-provoking which is why she finds excuses to find and keep a job.

For some people, certain circumstances become their 'comfort zone' and they keep manipulating things so they always end up there - if you get my drift. Your friend would frustrate the hell out of me.

I agree with you when you have got such a job best not to give it up. Saying what she said just makes me think she didn't want to work in the first place,

I don’t know about your neighbor and her circumstances but I’m also on disability. My check amount is much less than hers and it’s not enough to live on by myself but I do reside in a state where the cost of living is cheaper than NJ.
As far as the part time job goes, SSA allows you to work a little, but there is an hourly cap and a monthly income cap they permit you to work or they’ll put you in review. I’ve tried a few times to work part time but I always end up quitting due to reasons related to my disability.
I’m disabled for a reason… try as I might want to be financially dependent, I just can’t be. I’d rather be normal and be able to earn as much money as I can handle.
