If I had a lot of money and could afford to give to different charitable organizations I would give to the Cancer Society, our local Humane Society, the local food bank, Make-a-Wish, and St.Jude Children's Research Hospital. I am curious what you folks would give to. Do you have other areas you would like to help?

I would send money to the veterans of foreign war groups and donate money to my high school bowling team as well as no kill shelters for animals.

@celticeagle Veterans since they fought in wars for our freedoms and animals like cats and dogs since they are very faithful to humans who treat them right.

All good choices. If I had oodles of money, I'd probably chose them, too, and probably the Green Party. Then there's the women's Centre I go to... we need an elevator, lots of us use walkers and need help climbing the stairs up to the main room.

@celticeagle I might suggest it to the directors... the GoFundMe bit. They're always doing fundraisers and looking for grants to keep the place running.

I would donate to the Red Cross first. Animal rescues are a close second.
When I was 14, we had a house fire in winter and lost everything, our home, pets, clothes, food, etc. The Red Cross gave us vouchers to spend at Walmart for clothes, toiletries, voucher to Burlington for new coats and also hotel expenses so we could have somewhere to sleep.
When you are in such a traumatizing situation like that, just those gestures for a few things helped give us hope and heal. I will forever remain grateful. Red Cross provides many types of services and are also involved in helping our military families. I would give back to them if I could.

@celticeagle I’m very sorry to hear that it happened to both your parents, cancer is such an awful disease.
My grandmother was recently diagnosed with colon cancer and has surgery in about 3 weeks. We are mostly worried about her going under since major surgeries are a lot harder on the elderly.

@Kamuigan ........That is the cancer that got my mom. The surgeon couldn't get 3% of the cancer because it was too close to her spine. That 3% is what killed her.

@Kamuigan I'm sorry you had that fire. My family's cabin burnt to the ground when my daughter was just a toddler. A friend lent us his worn down house for a while. We didn't realize for a long time how depressed we all were and how leaving a back woods environment for a city slum really affected us all.

I would probably give to some local charities and food banks. I'd certainly give to the charity that saved, and now runs, our local theatre. It's a big community hub with plans for lots of community support and groups. I've supported by volunteering and by attending events but I'd love to be able to give them enough cash for some work I know desperately needs doing.
Apart from charities, I'd also love to be able to give my adult children enough cash for a house deposit or to start their own business... something to give them a bit of a head start.

George and I talked about buying land and buying our dream house if we won the lotto. As for giving back, probably to veterns or vets. Lord knows Driftwood got our money.

That would be great. Vets can always use it.
I would also build our dream home. I have looked and looked and the houses just don't have all that me and my family need. It sure would be nice.

I don’t have a lot of money, but that doesn’t stop me from donating. A thousand people each donating $10 goes a long way!!!

I would give to the James cancer research. And I can't think of the name but the one that treats kids with cancer. It might be St. Judes.

That isn't always the case but in a lot of them it is. Sadly so. I donate but just not a lot or as often as I would like.

@celticeagle Yes. I hope the libraries don't close some day because of lack of use.

In case I had lot of money , I would ensure I have cleared off my debts and ensured on investing the surplus to get a good income from that money. Using that income , I would divide into 3 groups - One to support senior citizens , one to support disabled and the needy in hospital , third would be to support education. I am willing to give the money to any foundation who would ensure the most money is used for the cause and not for their own admin charges. I had an experience where a crowdfunding site focussing on needy , charges 13% of the amount received and well that is a loss in some ways. If I had more money, I would donate to research into cancer and other deadly diseases. Have a wonderful day ahead!

Those are all noble causes. That is a good point about being sure the foundation you give to uses the money for the cause and not admin. charges. Yes, what a great day ahead.
