Are You Stocking Staples in Your Pantry?

I buy a few of these items each time I get groceries. These are added to my pantry backup plan. If prices go up, shipping becomes an issue, or we can't get to the grocery it's good to have some things on hand. I think most of us women think ahead this way. A list of staples most people have in their pantry: Peanut Butter Rice Canned meat ( like tuna and Spam) Ramen Noodles Crackers Powdered items and such to keep in mind: Powdered milk Powdered eggs Instant potatoes (could make some tasty dishes) Powdered Cheese Corn meal (lasts forever and can used for breakfast, lunch and dinner) Dry yeast (homemade bread) Rolled Oats and grits Thought-provoking: Vinegar( can be used to clean, for medicine and to purify water) Coconut oil ( for cooking and fuel) Bullion cubes (in rice or whatever can make some tasty dishes) Lentils and pasta Salt Canned vegetables, chili and canned stew Honey (lasts forever) Canned fruit Instant coffee The picture is from wonderful engineering.com

I'm actually trying to clear things out. I have a lot of those items already on hand but I'm trying to use stuff up rather than buying more so the herd will be thinned hopefully over the next month or two.

Rotation is important in food. But, a lot of the things I mentioned last for ages especially if they are in appropriate containers.

Good list! I think of pandemic times . . . that's when I really had to keep the pantry well stocked. Those habits stuck around.

@celticeagle I've always tried to, but it didn't matter that much to me before . . . now it's something that I really try to keep in mind and do.

Honey and molasses does not last forever in my house!! Powdered milk used to be one of my staples but its gotten way too spendy. Freezer fruit from summer is a staple for us. So are wheat berries for bread.

It is good to try hard to keep the pantry stocked. If something is on sale that we use regularly, I usually buy a spare. If a person can keep ahead on basic needs, it helps a lot.

That is very true. It is nice to have some things extra in the pantry. Can't always happen.

@celticeagle I have to keep ingredients to make things with, flours, pastas, etc. as well as baking items. I am not one to buy ready-to-eat foods, so ingredients are essential for meal preparations.

Some that could already be old. I try to cycle through some of it and save the stuff that lasts the longest.

I don't have too many places to put groceries, Usually, they are on a kitchen baker's rack.

Anything that is on special goes in my basket, especially if it's a staple and will keep.

Good idea. But if it is on special it may already be held. Depending on what it is. Some things last forever.

Yes, I am. I mostly buy 3 items each when the products are on sale but I have to put the older ones in the front so I could use them first.

I have a pantry but would love to have the one in the picture. I am going to have to start using up and giving away things in the pantry and freezer since it doesn't look like my husband will be coming home. Have a good day.

I really like the pantry you shared with us. I always make sure that I have a stock of rice, noodles, and rolled oats. Additionally, I keep canned goods on hand, such as corned beef and sardines.

I stock up on kitchen items but not too much so that I can finish them quickly before they expire and spoil. Once the stock runs low I will go shopping again.
