How myLot Helped Me Make $202!

Proper credit to @TheHorse for stealing his clickbait title.
This isn’t a complaint, it’s a fact of life. I’ve been hemorrhaging money this month. We’ve all had “those” months, and this one is mine. There were the car “repairs” (more like maintenance) for the 100,000 mile mark, the car and homeowners insurance, and the property taxes.
The insurance, though, came with a refund! My old insurance company priced themselves out of my life. I switched and saved $400 just in the car insurance (they couldn’t/wouldn’t tell me what my 2025 homeowner’s insurance bill would be). In order to get the multi-policy discount I switched both on the same day. That meant the old insurance company owed me a refund for three months’ worth of unused premiums.
So not only did I save $400 in car insurance, I got a refund of $202!
The photo is from a stop at the Land Between the Lakes on my way home from Missouri last month.

I switched my homeowners too . My old company was trying to charge an outrageous amount of money Who needs them?

We all need them. As Robert Klein said, insurance is gambling, “I’ll bet you a hundred dollars until you have a wreck that you don’t have a wreck!” But there are always people willing to give you a break for a couple of years until you switch, then they start charging you more.

@FourWalls I know that's right, I hope by this time
next year our bills will go down or be a lot cheaper, & our ss gets a
boost as well that would be a great help, but we'll see how it goes.

They’re there (big payment months), we know it. I’m thankful that I was prepared for it.

@porwest — exactly, and the $202 is in the savings account to help me get prepared for “next time.”

@FourWalls It is good to always be prepared, but of course you knew I'd say that.

Gotta love Pony with that! I let him borrow my “Go Fund Yourself,” so we’re even.

Your title immediately brought back TheHorse's discussions. I am glad you received a refund. November is not an expensive month, but December will be! Three months of healthcare insurance for my husband and I, that is expensive, but mandatory.

Too bad Pony can’t get paid for us thinking about him…he’d be quite rich if he could!
Ouch, sorry about the insurance premium. Mine is paid monthly out of my retirement pension, so I don’t miss it (or have to endure the pain of paying the bill).

@FourWalls Poor Pony, he loves to make money doing nothing.
I instructed the Bank to pay the premium automatically. I think to switch to monthly, it would be less "shocking".

Now @TheHorse will correct you and tell you that John Prine’s song was “The Bottomless Lake.” But Shel Silverstein did write one called “Bottomless Well,” so I’ll defend you.

They claim that insurance is a “cooperative,” but that’s not true. I wouldn’t approve of them using a billion dollars of “cooperative funds” to pay for naming rights for a baseball stadium.

I’m thinking about dropping AAA membership altogether next year. They’re way too expensive for what they offer, which anymore isn’t much.

Insurance prices keep going up. I'm glad you were able to switch, save money and get a refund. With all your latest expenses this came at a good time.

I guess we all have one of those “when it rains, it pours” months in bills/expenditures. And, to be fair, I haven’t had one in a long time.

@FourWalls I wish my health insurance would refund some of the money we've had to pay in the last couple months.
