Making chapaptis is an art. Looking at it one would think it is child's play and it is not so. One needs practice and even with practice some do not get it and I am one of those. I have given up trying to make chaptis. The success of a chapati depends if it puffs up fully and stays soft. It is also important that the shape is a perfect round. Definitely! I find making paratha and puris easier than roti! The consistency of the dough is what determines whether the roti will puff or not I guess

@allknowing The Italian region where my Mom was born makes a similar bread that puffs when you cook it in a pan. I learnt from my grandmother to make it.

you can still eat them even if they don't turn out exactly the way they're supposed to be, right? i'm saying - you can try again to make them, give it a different name

The shape may not be important but if they do not puff up they are less tasty. Yes they can be eaten though.
