Should I get back into working on my new poetry book?

I started working on a new poetry book Seasonal Memories I think in 2021 and then I stopped. Haven’t gotten back into it. And whenever I tell myself I should I start thinking, What’s the point? Not like anyone is gonna run to get it… Not because I think the book will be bad but because I suck at marketing. It’s much easier to write and publish a book than to get people to buy it. Especially when it’s poetry. People would rather spend money on other things.

I think you should get back to writing it. Even if you don't sell it or market it. Do it for the satisfaction of completing something you set out to do.

@lovebuglena It would be kind of hard to sit and write when you don’t really have a place to sit and write. Lol By all means, get the table first!

@moffittjc wonder when that will be. Hard to find dining table. Stuff I actually would get is expensive.

You have a point. Maybe once we finally buy a dining table I will give it a go. Right now we don’t have one. And no desk either. Nowhere to really sit and work on it aside from a small foldout table for eating in front of a TV. And a small chair that folds.

I think you could finish it and give it to family members or friends as a gift. Maybe you won't get your first million that way but your work will be out there.

This will be my 13th book. Don’t think I will ever be rich from publishing books.

@lovebuglena ...... It's rare when a book hits the big time.

I have two books of poems published and they are on Amazon. Not much going on there but I did have the chance to just recently promote my books through a blog site so I will see if any new action happens, I would say you should publish your book and get it out there for people to see. Promote it on social media and get it on Amazon. When I published my books I got help from a publishing company for the formating and getting it in book form,

Doesn’t seem like posting on social media works.

You don't have to publish it. You could finish it though.

If I finish writing it then I’ll probably end up publishing it.

I think you should finish it. I should get back to writing myself. Have a good day.

@LindaOHio I’d have to check my excel file but it depends on whether the book is bought directly from lulu or elsewhere online like Amazon, etc. On Amazon it’s somewhere between $2 and $4 I think. But on Lulu purchases it’s probably at least 3x as much.

@lovebuglena Page Publishing wants me to make at least $3/book. What do you make with Lulu? Just curious.

I should try publishing some on HP. Just gotta make sure they are not published anywhere else online. Unless something changed you can’t publish there if it’s already published elsewhere.

@lovebuglena Yeah, you may get called out on that if they have been published somewhere else. Not sure if that's still a rule, but best to avoid it nonetheless.

@porwest it’s not so much about being called out on it as it won’t be published and if you keep trying to publish stuff already elsewhere who knows what they will do.

Good luck with this. I can imagine it's very hard to sell books of poetry.

Thank you. It’s hard to sell any book if you are not a pro at marketing and can’t afford to hire one.
