Lots of Missing Work....

Hello everyone, how are you all doing?
Today is my son's birthday - he's now 11 years old. Can't believe that! Also can't believe he's in his last year of elementary school. Well, at least hopefully it is his last year.
I say that because he has a lot of missing assignments. He's caught up on some, and yet he still has a ton missing.
This teacher has been nice to let him bring the work home and complete it. I know starting next year that won't be the case.
They are working on getting everything complete for report cards - first semester will be over in about a month.
He has 7 language art assignments that are not turned in. He had 3 math assignments, but got those taken off the list. He has 4 science assignments/projects not done. Then he has 2 cursive pages (L and M). Finally, he has 4 writing skills papers to do. I think one of them was turned in, but the teacher hasn't seen it yet.
Needless to say that is 17 assignments not done! I know they do a lot of school work in a day so it can be hard to keep up, but that seems like a lot to not have done.
What do you think? Is that way too much - is he just procrastinating during class? I don't remember a lot from when I was in elementary. I know when I was in the later school grades I would procrastinate with assignments and sometimes I'd have to stay up late to get them finished lol.
Photo is mine. My son Eli not wanting to go to school so he's pouting.

@MommyOfEli2013 Do you help him. I sometimes helped Horse Jr. when he was confused about an assignment.

It sounds like he just hasn’t been taught yet to use his time productively, not that he had too much work. Hopefully, you can work with him at home to get all that done. I would have hoped the teacher would have notified you before it got to be so much, but I’m not there so I don’t know her reasons.
Happy birthday to Eli!

I don't know if we can, he fights doing his work so much....that's why I was glad when the teacher said no homework. and I don't think it is too much work either, I think he just gets distracted easily at school.

He just needs to apply himself and get them all done. I would say he has it much easier than I ever did because it ist he age of technology, Can he get some help or ideas or something from the PC to get his assignments done? Then of course there is also mom and dad who can lend a hand Anyway the best of luck to Eli and I hope he applies himself to get it all done,

I agree, but he doesn't want to put the effort in to do so. I agree, we didn't have all the technology that they do now...

All kids learn differently. I hope Eli is able to get all the work done. And that he has the happiest of birthdays.

Great photo. Happy Birthday to Eli. I'm surprised the teacher let him get so far behind. That never would have flown back when I went to school. I hope he can get all the work done. Have a great day.

@MommyOfEli2013 You're welcome. The teacher should have let you know. You're right, other teachers are not going to be as lenient.

Glad you like the photo...and thanks..
She said she'd let us know when he had more than 3 assignments, but now he has 17....
I can't imagine next year when the teachers will not be so nice about that...

Well you've mentioned he's been difficult as a student. either with participation or something else. So it's possible that he might be distracted and unable to concentrate at school. I know getting him to do homework is like pulling teeth. So, it's possible some of that is on him. The older you get the more... boring it feels I'd say. At least it was for me. When work became more repeative and less engaging and fun. And if he does have something like ADD ADHD OCD or any other underlying nerodyvergent disorder, that cranks it up to a ten.

So difficult, yes.... even back in pre-school when he didn't want to write his name at the beginning of the school day. Some of the work probably is boring to him I can agree since he is smart and knows a lot of it already. But I know he gets distracted easily too...I just know he could be held back if he doesn't get things taken care of and I know he doesn't want to be left behind while his best friend goes on to middle school.

happy birthday to Eli &i hope he gets it all done in time
kids here also have a lot of responsibilities and i know many parents are complaining about it. still, it's not like they have "assignments". they get homework everyday and have to bring it to school the next time they have class. teachers usually give them + or - for homework and after 5 of those they get grades 5 or 1 depending on their efforts.
i know that 17 assignments would never be a thing here. you might get 3 homeworks for the day and it's up to you if you're going to finish them in time for the next class or not. in 8th and 9th grade we would get assignments, but we'd usually get like 2 weeks to finish them and present them to the class. if it's not done - bad grade
have you talked to his teacher? what does he/she have to say about him in class?
what do you think about his after school behavior? does he have some sort of routine?
