Some of you know exactly what I'm talking about, and some of you think I'm crazy. Well, most of you probably already thought that, but that's neither here nor there.
Let me explain.
For as long as I can remember when I was growing up, my grandmother put a slice of bread in the fresh baked cookies when she put them in a tin, a cookie jar or whatever was holding them. She taught me from a very young age to do so.
Why?
Because it helps keep the cookies soft and fresh.
So when I put the cookies away tonight, I grabbed a piece of white bread and put it in with the cookies, and Chris looked at me like I was crazy. Then I had to explain it to him.
I know from comments on my cookie post earlier that a few myLotters do the same, or had grandmas that did the same, but I figured I would see if anyone else did it, or if it was a completely foreign concept to you.
So bread in the cookies or no?

I have never done that, but I trust all these smart things that grandmas followed. They are actually very effective. So, do you keep changing the bread in couple of days, I am afraid that they might grow mould in few days.

The cookies don't grow mold, why would the bread.
And who has cookies that last more than a day or two.

@thislittlepennyearns That’s what I was thinking; those cookies won’t last long enough for mold to grow on anything.

@AmbiePam Cookies never last more than maybe 2 days when they are fresh made.

I could write a whole blog about stuff my grandma taught me. My mother not so much.

My own mother was not a good cook. I pretty much took over the kitchen at a very, very young age, to keep from eating what she attempted to cook. Thank goodness for grandmothers!

@MarieCoyle I didn't live with my mother after fourteen. Except for a few months when I was 17 or so. I can count one one hand the times I remember her actually cooking.
