Adopting an injured kitten

We live in an apartment complex and the lease states we can only have two pets total. We already have a cat and a dog which we paid deposits for and have a monthly fee for them. Almost three months ago, boyfriend and I were driving home from the store and saw a kitten just laying in the middle of the road as cars passed it and I knew something was wrong so I jumped out of our vehicle and grabbed it. We took her to the vet and she ended up having a broken arm and a hernia (and scrapes on her mouth and ears). Presumably she had been hit by a car or fell out of someone's engine. She was only about 6-7 weeks old at the time and a little feral. Luckily vet said her arm would heal on its own, but she might have a limp and the hernia will prob heal on it's own but might need surgery later on. We decided to keep her, we couldn't just abandon an injured baby, she would be dead if we hadn't taken her. So now have no choice but to keep her presence a secret in our place until we are able to buy a house, hopefully in another year. Fast forward to now. Great news, the kitten uses her arm just fine- runs around and plays like she should with no limp and the hernia has healed perfectly, you can't tell she ever had one. She's been to the vet for a checkup and her first shots too. She is just the sweetest girl with the cutest personality and is treated like a princess. We love her!

Yeah if I were to keep a pet, I would rather adopt a stray dog than buy an expensive breed.

Adoption is best for many reasons... however my current dog is an expensive breed lol.

@Dreamerby Well, there will always be stray cats around, dogs not so much. But I wouldn't say it's an extreme problem.

It's been a challenge having three pets and we didn't want anymore when we only had two. But sometimes stuff like this happens and it comes down to choosing: do you turn your cheek the other way, or do what's right, even when it's hard.

she's lucky you guys found her. i'm glad she's feeling better now. have you thought of the name? the cat i have in Bosnia was found by my mom. it was tied in a bag and thrown in the garbage. my mom brought it home and we took care of him. he looked really bad, but now he's a 5 year old handsome big boy

@Kamuigan he's one of the lucky ones. there are many stray dogs and cats here. unfortunately, that's not regulated here.

Oh my god, I can't believe someone threw away the poor kitty like that. How cruel. Good thing your mom found him and that he has a happy life now

Aww that's great that she's healed. What are you going to do if the apartment management finds out?

I plan to appeal to the office lady since she is really great and tries to be fair to people when they have issues. I think she will at least consider listening since we're great tenants and of course I'll bring up the fact that this situation happened due to the apartment's lack of responsibility. This kitten comes from a litter related to multiple wild, inbred cats from previous tenants who abandoned them and the apartment has taken no action to remedy or help the cats. They are allowed to keep breeding and cause issues for years. These feral cats are now the complexes' responsibility and I wouldn't have had to save the kitten's life if the problem w/ these wild cats had already been addressed.

You did great! Your post was heart warming. Lots of love to your pet. Do you plan to continue keeping her? Or do you intend to find a forever home for her considering the fact that you are allowed to have only two pets?

Our goal is to keep her forever. We will just have to do our best to hide her until we move out of the apartment. We were planning on moving in a year or less, so hopefully it will all work out.
