Turkey Pardons

You knew about the turkey pardons, right? The presidential turkey pardoning tradition began back in 1863. Abraham Lincoln granted clemency to a live turkey intended for his family's Christmas dinner. How it became a Thanksgiving tradition I don't know. But fast forward to today and where do suspect the turkeys might go having been pardoned? From 2005 to 2009 they were sent to Walt Disney World or Disneyland. They serve as the honorary grand marshals of Disney's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The picture is from my collection.

I don't know why either, but that's kind of cool. Kind of funny, too. Since Turkey is a staple at the thanksgiving table for many.

So who pardons the turkeys and what happens to them afterwards? And what do those people eat for their Thanksgiving dinner?
