What's wrong with the education system?

Lately, I read a post on how a school in the United States suspended a child who punched a boy who was bullying him relentlessly.
Bullying remains a persistent issue in many schools, affecting students' mental and emotional well-being. Often, schools fail to address bullying effectively, allowing perpetrators to escape meaningful consequences. However, students who fight back against their tormentors frequently face suspension, creating a perception of unfairness in disciplinary actions. This approach discourages self-defense and fosters a climate where bullying continues unchecked, leaving victims feeling unsupported and justice unattained.
Don't you think the education system is failing because no considerable action is taken against the bullies?

I'm fortunate that my children haven't experienced that up to now. Their school has a strict rule for bullying and respect for each other. And I always tell my kids that if and if something happens, they have to tell me immediately. My kids are very open and will tell me their daily activities. The teachers are amazed that I'm aware of what's happening in school and their activities

I have seen this happen mostly in the United States. Bullying is normalized in the schools there.

I think parents are failing, and schools are made to pick up the slack. When parents refuse to step in and address their child’s abhorrent behavior it sends a message to the child that they can continue to be bullies. Schools should keep an eye out for bullies, no doubt, but ultimately, change can’t always happen unless it is within the home.

I agree with you. And bullying has been happening for a long time. I was bullied at school and I´m going to be 80 years old. And it seems that noone cares. Often bullies have parents who are bullies too.

@Dreamerby I agree with you. But it is easier to punish that to learn the reason of a fight.

Yeah . I think it has something to do with the parents too. But school often ends up doing nothing about the bullies. All they do is punish those who fight back ! Its ridiculous!

They must have more stringent measures to deal with bullies.

Schools need more Student Support Classroom Teacher Aides, in my opinion. Students would feel safer when a "mediator support" keeps an eye on the surrounding-- protecting and safeguarding every child/student from bullies and bullies stay away from bullying.

@Dreamerby Yes. Parents who entrust their children to good schools must get that support.

i'm afraid that there will always be similar experiences until everyone does their role - parents, kindergarten teacher and later teachers. i think that it's really important to teach/show kids how to be empathetic and yet it often remains neglected because everyone's paying more attention to skills like writing, reading and stuff like that.

yeah both school and the parents need to do this work together.
