While it may run the gamut on the rock side of these two lists of my 100 favorite charted songs, you have to admit that the country side has been pretty consistent. No Garth, no Shania, and a lot of songs from before I was born. Don’t be afraid of that old stuff! Here’s today’s song. This Ole House - Stuart Hamblen Yes, Linda, this is the same song Rosemary Clooney did. No, you DON’T want to hear this version. Stuart Hamblen is best remembered for writing the gospel song “It Is No Secret” and doing this song. This is based on a true story: Hamblen and John Wayne were hunting when they found a man deceased in a hunting cabin with the man’s dog faithfully guarding the house. Hamblen, who’d found God at a Billy Graham crusade, used the premise to write a song about a man who is as “tuckered out” as the building, but joyful because he know he’s getting ready to “meet the saints” in Heaven. Talk about another coincidence? It was 17 years ago today that this song came true in my life. On November 22, 2007 (Thanksgiving Day), my mom suffered a brain aneurysm. She “met the saints” 18 days later. This is a celebration of one’s faith. You can play it at my funeral. This Ole House Written by Stuart Hamblen Recorded by Stuart Hamblen Released as a single, 1954 Peak chart position: #2 Today’s rock song: “Teacher, Teacher” Ain’t no time to oil the hinges:

@FourWalls Oh yeah, Hubby knew that famous Elvis gospel song and recognized it right away when I played it but he didn't know who had written it.

Yup Yup Yup I had some rowdy friends who were into country and on this song we whooped and stomped until my mom shouted You're going to the neighbors through the floor but it was fun anyway,

I can understand that, this isn’t a quiet and contemplative song.

I do remember hearing that song at an oldies radio station in New Orleans that may have been sung by both Rosemary Clooney and Stuart Hamblen. It is a nice tune.

Rosemary (who was from Kentucky!) had a great voice.
