A nice visit from you-know-who

I've mentioned several times before that things between my ex-husband and I ebb and flow. We've been divorced for 5 years. There are times when we are 100% good and there are times when we are barely speaking. Sometimes he blocks my number and sometimes I block his. The one constant though is that we do still very much love each other and he is always there for me if I need something.
I was blocked for a couple of months but he unblocked me after Hurricane Helene hit Asheville in September. His parents live there and he knew that I would be worried about them. We've stayed in contact since and things have been good. . . even better than good.
Today we went back and forth via text all day. I pretty much knew where things would wind up--with him just happening to be in the area (we live only like 10 minutes away from each other in any case) and wanting to stop by. I am always fine with him stopping by whether it is announced or not. So he came by about 2 hours ago. The cats were all happy to see him--even Adso who very few people have ever seen. We sat on the couch and talked for awhile and then, well, we got distracted by something else.
It was a nice visit. It is always good to see him. I don't know what the future holds but for now I am just grateful that we are in a good spell. Last night he got a bit snippy with me via text so I just let it go and went to bed. I woke up to an apology saying that it had been a long week. He ended it with "Sleep well. Love you." That is a perfect example of how odd our current relationship is.
Oh well. It works for us. When he left he asked "talk to you tomorrow?" Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

It's nice to get a visit. And, if the cats approve, he must be a good person deep down.

That's the thing. 2 of the cats are normal and friendly to everyone. Adso, however, who I have had since he was 8 weeks old and who has never been abused or had trauma is a scaredy cat. As soon as he hears a knock at the door or a ring of the bell he is under the couch for HOURS.
He has always come out immediately for my ex. Not only let him see him but he would approach him to be pet. It is very strange. My ex doesn't even like cats (or so he claims). but Adso likes him and approached him to be pet several times this afternoon.

@NJChicaa Does Adso have a history with your ex? Some cats are naturally scardy cats. Mama cat was the same way.

@kaylachan I adopted baby Adso at 8 weeks a year or 2 after moving here. Adso never lived with him or knew him. For some random reason he trusts and likes him. It is funny bc Adso hides from EVERYONE. Today he approached him to be pet.
