When Is Everyone Putting Up Their Christmas Trees?

We're not putting one up this year. Ours is only 18" to 2' tall on a table top anyway, but we're just not that into it. We lost Cricket the Cat (he passed away) back in May so it's my first Christmas without a cat in 32 years. I don't even want to hang stockings on the mantle over the fireplace. I used to always decorate for Christmas on the day after Thanksgiving. I'd have the day off from work and it was my half-day task to set up the tree and get out the ornaments and other household holiday decor. But hubby and I really minimalists now more than ever so we don't own hardly anything decorative that isn't utilitarian anymore. When are you decorating for the holidays and putting your tree up? The bittersweet thing about not having Cricket: you can have things on the table without fear of them getting knocked over. Don’t have a tree, so I guess the answer is never.

I believe that I will start decorating this weekend. One evening next week we will rearrange the furniture and my hubs and I will put the tree up and I will get the beads on it and the following afternoon we will bring the girls here to decorate it, or at least the bottom couple of feet of it.

I gave my four foot tree to Amyra, so I’m going treeless, although if I can find my foot tall pink tree with bells already attached I’ll get it out. Other than that, I’ll just be hanging a wreath I got this year. I don’t feel like digging stuff out.

Why don't you get another cat? So many needs homes, if you have the space and the love in your heart, why not? I see it as kind of a moral imperative really, but that's me. Probably the weekend after Tgiving..which is wow, next weekend!

I used to put up my Christmas tree the night of the day before Christmas, after the children were in bed. We had our Christmas celebration early on the 24th because my Dad´s mom came then and she wanted to leave early. The tree was always put away on January 6th.

@looeyville My wife’s first catless Christmas too. We’ll be in England on Christmas Day and our new house is so small that we are happy to forego all the clutter of Christmas and we won’t have a tree.

I'm sorry about Cricket. I can't imagine a house without a pesky cat in it. I am itching for some color and jolity so I imagine I will start on Monday- Thanksgiving is late this year. My start will be a 2.5 foot fake tree.

We'll wait till December. We won't be here much over Christmas so too much decoration seems a bit of a waste really.
