Just Another Day in Alabama

I am guessing that states like Georgia and Mississippi are similar, but I know this is characteristic of Alabama - bipolar weather. We went to bed last night with the fireplace going. The fire had gone out this morning and the only reason I wasn't freezing was because I had two cats in my lap and a puppy on my feet. When I took my puppy outside to potty and then feed him, I was worried about him being in the cold. I took him out again a moment ago and the sun was shining and the day warming. Tomorrow it is supposed to be really cold, but Monday it will be back up into the high 70s. Rain always catches us unaware. Then when it rains, it can be raining when I leave my house, then a mile down the road, there's not a drop of rain. Alabama has bipolar whether. Sometimes, we have all four seasons in one week. The last couple of days has been like a wrestling match between Heat Miser and Jack Frost. It's just crazy. But it's never dull. photocredit: Forever Christmas

Florida can be like that, too. A common joke here is that wait ten minutes and the weather will change.

I have a friend who lives in Tallahassee. She says the same thing about Florida weather.

@gnatsmom It's really not that uncommon when you stop and think about it. I can go to bed sweating and wake up cold. Or like just now we were outside and I was sitting still and sweating, this morning our heater was on and my husband was complaining.

@kaylachan Yes, it is common, especially down in the south. Not so much up north, though. We lived in upstate NY for 2 years. It was always cold, except for June, July, and August. I remember it snow in April, our first year there. We were not prepared for the weather there.

I always check James Spann’s forecast out of Birmingham. Frost advisories down to the coast! And don’t forget, this is also the end of hurricane season but the start of tornado season for Alabama.

Yep, I remember. That is why I am not putting as many Christmas decorations outside this year. I am too old to have to clean them up after ever wind that comes through. I used to check James Spann's forecasts pretty regular. Now, I just get up and see what the day brings.
