A snow storm knocked our power out

After a very heavy wet snow we and about 18,000 other people in our county have been without electric. We have been without it for 38 hours. We have a propane heater in the dining room that is keeping things warm enough. The freezer was starting to thaw out too much though even though we had only opened it a handful of times or less. So my husband went and bought a generator about 3 hours ago. The internet was out as well and that just came back on so I’m able to use the WiFi until for about an hour when we shut the generator off for the night. My parent’s cell phones via AT&T aren’t even working. My daughter is sick but her apartment got to cold so she and her boyfriend came here for a few hours and are spending the night at a friend’s house. She doesn’t have a propane oven or stove like I do so I made her a pizza to eat. My husband ironically brought home two pizzas from a restaurant when he went to buy the generator. The photo is of Christmas books I collected for my great nephew all year. 25 of them wrapped and numbered for him to start opening daily December 1. I used scraps of wrapping paper I had leftover from last year.

@rakski me too I’m hoping to wake up in the morning to a house full of lights and to have running water.

Over a day - wow - I hope you get that power back on soon! With heavy snow, I'll bet it gets real cold there - hope you all keep safe and as warm as possible. Love the pile of wrapped books - my kind of gift .

@much2say it’ll be 48 hours soon. The generator is off now but we have the propane tank going as a heater for the main room.

@snowy22315 my husband makes a bit of a mess pouring the fuel in the generator and the fumes are bothering me. While I have enjoyed a few hours of lights and the freezer freezing things back up I’ll be glad soon when he shuts the generator off for the night.

That looks like a wrapping paper Christmas tree. That's a thoughtful gift for your great nephew. I hope you all will continue to be well though you're having difficulties.

That is a very long time to go without power. I hope that you can keep the food in the freezer from spoiling. I love the idea of the books for your nephew, that is such a smart ideal. Stay warm.

I'm so sorry that you've been without power for so long. What a lovely idea to give your great nephew 25 books!! I'm sure he will love opening them one by one.

Those storms do bring a lot of problems. We face cyclonic storms in our part of the world once or twice every year .
