Going back to my childhood days I remember how involved we were in each other's lives when it came to our neighbours to the extent that we even knew what they ate and who came to their house. We even helped them if they had many guests with whatever help they wanted. Today each of us live our own life not knowing what the next door neighbour is doing I only see activity vehicles getting in and out. I did not even know when my neighbour died until I heard the funeral band. WhatsApp is where news is sent and I do not have WhatsApp The only time there is life is when you are invited to a function as they need people to grace the occasion How is life out there where you live?

Swiss are very private people. We do not know who visits our neighbors or what they eat, but we meet almost every day when we go to our gates to collect our mail or when we go up to throw the garbage in the bins on the street.

@allknowing - We meet and talk quite often when we go shopping, but we do not invite each other in our homes.

I think it is a good mix here. Of course, we live so close together now that not much is very private.

When we just shifted here years ago things were slightly diffeirent in that there was some kind of closeness but that has now disappeared. What is your opinion about your present situation. Would you have preferred more privacy?

kind of in between I think. I know a bit about what's going on!

We used to talk about those living in the West how indifferent they are and now it is happening here

i think it all depends - people here are still included in each other's lives and drink coffees together, but i'm talking about people that have been living next to each other for years. on the other hand, some people move from different cities and they don't know anyone and are usually shy to approach first

Even if peple are neighbours for years there could be total privacy in their life as is the case with some here

Our neighbors here are very tight-knit. We know everyone on the street and we socialize once each month.
