Because no one is above the law, right?
There is a prohibition about prosecuting cases against sitting presidents. Trump unfortunately won the 2024 election and will return to the White House in 2 months. He vowed to immediately fire Jack Smith which of course is what every innocent person would do. So Smith is wrapping them up. I read somewhere that he left the door open to prosecution or resuming the cases in 2029. Sure. Like that will happen. His team is continuing the cases against Trump associates Walt Nauta and some other MAL guy whose name I forget.
To his credit Smith included in his motion a comment about standing behind the cases against Trump. Referring to the prohibition of prosecuting a sitting president he stated: "That prohibition is categorical and does not turn on the gravity of the crimes charged, the strength of the Government’s proof, or the merits of the prosecution, which the Government stands fully behind.” BURN.
So freaking Trump slides out of accountability for his criminal activities yet again. How many times over the past 4 years have we heard "no one is above the law"? And now this?!?!?! Disgusting.
