It is time for the Heart-Attack Mashed Potatoes

Oh these have been an annual holiday tradition for almost 2 decades. My former mother-in-law's mother devised the recipe and my MIL shared it with me when I joined the family. The recipe clearly isn't heart-healthy or calorie free with all of the potatoes, sour cream, 2 blocks of sour cream, and stick of butter along with the salt and pepper. It sounds really heavy when you look at the ingredients but it all gets whipped in the stand mixer so it is surprisingly light. It also is great because you can make it a day or 2 before but when you reheat it you'd never know. We call it Heart Attack Mashed Potatoes because of all of the fat. No one ever turns them down though. They are DELICIOUS and we only have them once or twice a year. I will make them on Wednesday night so they can be reheated on Thursday for Thanksgiving dinner.

Did you mean two blocks of cream cheese with the sour cream and butter? They certainly would be worth having once or twice a year.

I make those, too. As you say, they are really delicious, and the fact that you can make them ahead of time is a big plus to me, too. We do not have them often--like you, it's a special holiday dish, due to all of the fat content. But oh, so GOOD!

I'm always amazed that they feel so light when they have so much fat in them.

@NJChicaa They do seem light. No matter what, they never disappoint, best mashed potatoes ever. If restaurants served these potatoes, there would be a wait line a mile long! I still think you missed your calling...I imagine you are a truly wonderful teacher, but I know you are also an amazing cook!

I use a lot of butter in mashed potatoes too. I donĀ“t mind about heart attack then. We have to die of anything or other and they are SO good.

My sister makes something similar to this. They always fill the bill, although we don't have them for Thanksgiving.

They sound good and something George and I'd like, LOL. Or he might've before his stroke.
