Another Scam

I just read where a lady went to Walmart and got a $150 gift card for someone. The recipient tried to use it and there was no money on it. The lady went to Walmart and followed all their directions and basically was told the store wouldn't be responsible. The lady said she shared this in FB and found that Walmart was not the only business where this was happening. It has happened with other cards bought their too like Applebee's and KFC. Those companies are not taking responsibility for the amount lost. Some how scammers are immediately able to take that money that was loaded on the card. She said that she found that this is wide spread and happening a lot. She also said that AI is being used. All cards are being breeched. They can all be compromised. Like the girl telling the public about this said, I think Walmart should quit selling these gift cards. What do you think? Wasn't their system breeched? Shouldn't they be responsible?

No, Wal-Mart should not be responsible. I was shopping for Gift Cards at Kroger the other day and noticed one for Amazon had been opened so that the gift card # and pin # were showing. Obviously somebody was trying to steal the funds from the card. Crooks are going to be crooks.

From what I understand, the cards have no value until values are added at a cash register to them. Even if they have a face value, they are worthless until money is "loaded" onto them.

@porwest ......Right. That is what the lady did. Then it was a while before it was used so scammers had plenty of time to take the money off.

It's complicated. The stores need to know where the money went and how the money was scammed. Anyone can just grab gift cards and say they were scammed, so the stores have to be careful. It does need to be addressed in some way though.

That is true. I can understand why the stores have to be careful. I think they should stop doing gift cards until it gets straightened out.

Oh no how sad. There better be some regulation with this somehow and yes they should be responsible.

I always make sure the card has not been scratched off on the back. That gives them the numbers to it and then they just keep checking until it has money on it.

i don't think it's Walmarts fault, but we definitely need to be more careful when it comes to these things. i feel sorry for the person that actually bought that giftcard.

I do too. Getting further information I realize that Walmart isn't really at fault but, they do need to address the issue. Maybe not sell the cards anymore until they can find a way that scammers can't do this.
