Are you depending on social media influencers for news?

As per a report in yahoo finance, 40% of young adults in US depend on influencers to stay updated on current events and politics. What is shocking is a vast majority of these influencers have never worked in the news industry or are affiliated to any news organization! In my childhood, we used to depend on Newspaper, Radio and TV for the news. TV and Radio had the latest news and extensive coverage news via the newspaper. Then came internet and news websites. Then social media. Fast-forward now, I have to depend on different sources for my new sources. I need to depend on Economic times for finance news, news websites for local , country and global news and for others mostly social media including X . Times have definitely changed! Are you depending on traditional sources or are you depending on non-traditional sources such as social media influencers for news?

I would never trust social media for my news, unless the news came from a varfied news sorce. Social media influencers, are who they are because they influence people to think the way they do. Their iponins are bias and not rooted in fact. It's oftern refered to as fake news.

@RevivedWarrior Well, that's what an influencer is supposed to do.

There is also the issue where influencers and big time celebs keep putting down mainstream news as fake and biased and so people no longer trust them. Anything controversial is exciting.

Most Social media influencers do have an interest in controversial topics as that gets them rating. Agree with that. Thanks for sharing!

I don’t personally know anyone who depends on social media influencers for anything. I would say 40% is way too high of a number to be accurate, but then I’ve been surprised before.

I only depend on traditional sources. I think that influencers give out too many fake news.

No, I do not stay updated with the latest news. I usually read on Reddit or Bing for that.

@RevivedWarrior Yes, you can follow the "news" subreddit on Reddit. Hehe. Or you can try other keywords if you like to know about the latest news. Happy weekend!

I don't depend on any sources for news. I do my best not to listen to it as most of the time it's depressing. I will get the weather report. It can be just as depressing. I agree, times have changed when it comes to news sources.

Most traditional news and cable news outlets have no credibility, do not do investigative reporting, and do not base their views on facts but instead are just opinion shows. Many people are starting to turn away from those liberal biased stations and looking for alternative news sites. They are no longer credible sources of information and people have become skeptical. A recent example was the U.S. election for president. The mainstream media and liberal press told unsubstantiated lies about President Trump, but the majority of voters saw through the falsehoods and elected him despite those attacks. But one must do their own research and use common sense to sort through the hyperbole even with non-mainstream sites as they all have an agenda. It has become a real task these days to find the truth...

True- finding the real truth is a difficult task today. Media at times changes the script according to needs of the management or their investors. Itis no longer a question of ethics. Thanks for sharing!

I rely on both, after all even traditional news outlets are biased, and some influencers got so much passion and do so much research they seem superior even when it comes to providing facts. Then the main advantage of social media is that the public can interact with the "reporter" directly, so you don't just listen but you can share your opinion or ask questions.
