Elections made me very anxious

In Romania, people voted for an unknown man. He was on TikTok and he had a lot of fake accounts. People wanted a change, and they made a poor choice. They voted for a man who says he met aliens and is pro-Russia. I really can't understand how they could vote for him. They work in Europe. And they are against Europe and pro-Russia? Or maybe they weren't informed. But how can someone vote like that? I can't watch anything on social media because they are talking about elections everywhere. I need to avoid social media. A man who seems to have mental health problems can become the president of Romania and some people are blind. They really believe he can make that change we need as a country.

in Bosnia, people stick with the same leaders and parties even though they did nothing for the country. we just make them even richer. but whatever - "if voting made any difference, they wouldn't let us do it".
don't stress too much about it. avoid the social media if it bothers you. take care

I am very worried because this man thinks like a dictator. There are serious concerns that Romania can be a communist country again. My parents told me how communism was and I don't think I can survive this. This man said that murderers were heroes. He said he isn't against genocide. And we are near Ukraine. Young people protest in many towns. They don't want a dictator.

@aureategloom I think it's the same old people voting for the same old leaders or parties, a matter of habit so to speak. Young people don't even bother most of the time, which is unfortunate... but still, as you said, many lost faith in democracy.

No different then the U.S. If a country has low standards for what it takes to run for an office, then that person has every opportunity to win.

@dya80dya Those who hate Trump, are afraid he will be, but even if he wanted to... he wouldn't be able. While we set a low bar on who can run for President, we have a thing called congress and not a lot happens without a majority vote in both the House and Senete. A few things can be pushed without congress approval, but not many. So, no, it won't become a dictatorship.

I've heard of complaints about low voter turnout, especially in Europe. Very few people believe elections can bring a change and they don't go to vote because they are uninterested and unmotivated.
Maybe some people voted for that guy just for fun, maybe they weren't serious... although it is not much different in the rest of the world, where it is not uncommon to see peculiar characters being elected.
But hopefully this dude won't make any mess.
And I totally get your frustration with social media at the moment, not worth getting angry and wasting time there right now.
