Along with my favorites from the Billboard Hot 100 I’m giving you my 100 favorite songs from the country charts. There’s a lot more to pick from on this side, because the country chart started in 1944. I also grew up with country music, so this list was much more difficult to put together. Having said that, some were obvious selections…like this one. The Waltz of the Angels - Wynn Stewart Wynn Stewart, like Al Dexter earlier this week, is one of the greatest, most influential country singers you’ve never heard of. I’ll let Merle Haggard explain it: “Without Wynn Stewart, there would be no Buck Owens, no Merle Haggard, and no Bakersfield Sound.” That’s some pretty heavy accolades for someone who is remembered, if at all, for his 1967 hit “It’s Such a Pretty World Today.” Well, and maybe the use of “Another Day, Another Dollar” in the VW commercial a few years ago. This was his first hit, in 1956. It’s been covered millions of times (in fact, George Jones and Margie Singleton’s 1962 duet was the first version of this I heard), but I do tend to go to the original. Especially when you have someone who was as original as Wynn Stewart. The Waltz of the Angels Written by Dick Reynolds and Jack Rhodes Recorded by Wynn Stewart Released as a single, 1956 Peak chart position: #14 Today’s rock song: “Total Eclipse of the Heart” When your lips say I love you:

Not so fussed about this one. I almost always like the original versions best - same with films.

The best remake of a movie is The Ten Commandments, with Charlton Heston. That is a remake (Cecil B. DeMille did the original in 1925.)

@FourWalls It's interesting to watch some of these really old movies. So much has changed since then particularly in the technology area.

I did an “angels” countdown many years ago. None of them were hits.

The popularity of country songs at the time prompted Billboard to give “hillbilly and folk” its own chart. Glad you enjoyed the song.
