I made deconstructed Shepherd's pie today (see image for ingredients other than gravy mix).. The meat, gravy and veggies cooked in one pot and the mashed potatoes in the micro because our oven doesn't work. Otherwise, junk food all week. My daughter went to Utah to have Thanksgiving with her dad's family. Her dad and her brother did all the cooking. She got to see them and her half brother and sister, plus my son's two sons and her other nieces and nephews who stopped by. I've got a turkey breast in the freezer that I'll cook after she comes home on Monday morning by red-eye.

That would drive me insane without a working oven. Has it been down for a while? Either way, I am sure the deconstructed Shepherd's Pie turned out well enough, but I have never had it not baked.

@jerzgirl Yeah. I'd be lost. I use mine all the time. But if it works for you, it works for you. It's not for me to judge.

@porwest The only thing my mother used the oven for was cakes and pies and holiday meats (turkey and ham). She was a prolific cake baker. She didn't even put mac n cheese in the oven. She baked an occasional bread pudding. But rice pudding was also stovetop. I only used mine for full sized turkeys and cakes, so usually less than 5 times a year. Mom never made cookies and neither do I. I eat the batter raw anyway.

@jerzgirl I am always baking meats or roasting them or broiling them. As for cookie batter I used to make batters sometimes just to eat that too. lol
