Do You Still Do This Fun Christmas Time Activity?

I used to enjoy driving around and looking at the Christmas lights that people around the area put up. I would take my family out. We'd get some hot chocolate along the way and enjoy the outing as a family. Now that I don't drive anymore I am not able to enjoy this any longer. I have not been out for about ten years. I really miss it. There used to be competition shows on some of the cable stations too. I wonder if there has been a decline in how many families are putting up Christmas lights nowadays. Do you put up any lights? Are you putting less than you used to? Do your neighbors?

When we bought the house we used to decorate the house. This year we won't be doing that because of George's stroke. Maybe next year he'll feel up to it. Provided he starts working on being more active.

@celticeagle Cost really isn't an issue. If you let them run all night, maybe. But, a few hours at night for a month really doesn't affect the good old power bill. Now people who decorate their homes like in the movie Deck the Hauls, maybe. But, their power cocompusion would be higer in general so may not notice a spike for a month. If it's a smaller home, well, maybe. I don't really know. We use budget billing even though we have solar. Between the two our energy costs are way down. We only need to get new lights once every four to five years.

@kaylachan .......I use Budget Pay. It's nice to have it the same amount each month. I try to keep track of the difference in electricity used by the graphs that are included in the bill. Solar is such a smart way to go.

I always lived in apartments in NYC and I never put up lights in Latvia even though I had a house no one put up lights.

I think just as many people put up lights. We never did. Some people go all out. Have a good week.

I hope you can drive again or maybe in your family can drive you around. We used to decorate the house but this year my mom told us not too... because she said.. she is always the one who cleans up everything after the Christmas, i think we need to convince her again.

We just have decorations in our home this year. We live in a very rural area and don’t see many Christmas lights.

A park in my town puts on an incredible light show. It costs 5 dollars to drive through- there are gorgeous individual displays, for instance, kids swinging on swings- all lights and with the idea of movement. Gorgeous. Downtown has a window display contest. Many home owners go all out, outlining their homes and trees etc. with different colored lights. I intend to go out more this year though generally I have slowed way down on driving after dark.
