Fentanyl Deaths Show a Historic Decline and I am thrilled to see this.
US drug overdoses have fallen by 14.5% in the latest reporting period. In a 12-month period ending in June 2023, there were only 97,000 fatal overdoses which is the lowest level in nearly four years. It is interesting to note that there has been a substantial reduction in White communities but not in the Black and Native American communities. There still needs to be ongoing programs in underserved areas and not a decline due to complacency.
Life Expectancy Stats
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that the life expectancy for those born in the U.S. is 77.5 years right now. It was 76.5 in 2021 and 77 in 2020.
Data shows that 417,000 lives were taken by COVID-19 in 2021 less than in 2020.
