Our daughter Tammy was a junior in high school when she found out she was pregnant. We raised our children in Church of God, so it was really a heartbreak for us.
We never once considered abortion and determined to support our daughter and love our first grandbaby with all our hearts.
Tammy graduated high school while pregnant and we were very proud of her. She waitressed for a time, but soon knew she wanted a career to support herself and her next child Josh.
Kristin was due Christmas Day, but came on Dec 23. Back then, 35 years ago, no one knew if the baby would be a girl or boy so I bought an adorable little elf outfit and Kristin was precious with that head full of black hair.
Tammy, her husband, and the baby were staying with his mom, but I stayed a few days to help out. The cold weather broke the water pipes, so I had to get water from an overflow to make bottles of formula with!
The teen marriage didn't last, so Tammy and Kristin lived with us for a couple of years while Tammy attended college.
She went on to get a four year degree and had a long and very successful career with a major tech company.
She proved that determination with God's help can allow you to fulfill your dreams even with obstacles along the way.
Kristin is now a real estate coordinator in Charlotte NC and is married to a corporate attorney who is a partner in his law firm.
So, both our girls have done well when many people thought she would be a high school drop out raising her kids on well fare.
I know there are many families like that through no fault of their own. But Tammy never believed there were obstacles she couldn't overcome with help from her family and her God.
That unplanned little life turned out to be one of our greatest blessings.

@rakski It would have been really hard for her to support a child without our help which of course was a blessing to us, too.

Thanks so much, Linda. I got the injection in my neck yesterday, but found out it's one of two temporary trial shots to be sure it's going to help before the longer lasting one. It did help for about eight hours, so now waiting for Medicare approval for the second temporary one.

@1creekgirl You're very welcome. That temporary shot thing is for the birds. They should give you a regular shot.

@LindaOHio I thought that was what I was getting, but I guess they have to be sure it works first.

I believe in god...and I believe god should fill human hearts with goodness. When kids are conceived, I believe it is also the the duty of father to support the family, WITHOUT HAVING TO GO TO COURTS TO GET THE DUES. Usually, it is only the mother who ends up doing all the chores for the child and also paying school fees etc. To me, that seems unfair. Does god say we should adjust to unfairness? That is perpetuating wrong for another generation or two...so does not the sin fall upon us? That is my question.
I am glad your kids have done well in life....but that gnawing question still eats my mind.

I agree fathers should support their children, but not all do.
