today is my mom's birthday and it's so weird not being able to celebrate it with her. even when i was studying in another city i was trying to get home for her and dad's birthday and when i couldn't be there - i would send a present.
but now it's not the same. we're not living close to each other and i couldn't send her anything in time. but i'll send her something later 
we spent more than an hour on video call and we were talking about everything. i sang her birthday song and that's all i could do. i thanked her for everything she did for me and everything she taught me. she said that my happiness is the best gift she could get. i'll get used to this distance, but i hope we can celebrate future birthdays together
i'm so grateful i have her.

She still walks this Earth. You have the ability to communicate with her. As people get older, they're just thankful that You're with them and you haven't forogten their existance. They aren't looking for material gifts. Love is free and priceless.

Of course you can very soon. I can feel that you misses them so much.
When I am at work and could not come home due to busy schedule for a day or weeks, I miss my family so much.

@aureategloom I agree, mothers deserve the world especially if they gave the world to us. I know someday that we'll get to the point where we can spoil them and tell them that they never have to worry about anything anymore.

The thought counts too! There are many who never bother about parents and vic-versa. True, you tried but due to few personal challenges you could not meet her in person and celebrate. However, spending an hour in video call counts a lot. You did what is possible and I am pretty sure your parents especially your mother is proud that her daughter has a caring heart. Plus , she is one proud and lucky mother! Your mother also said the golden words- your happiness is the best gift she could get ! Not everyone is blessed and not everyone is lucky. Hope you are doing great. Enjoy the day!

Being a mom myself I know your mom certainly meant it when she said that your happiness is the best gift. I'm sure your video chat and the birthday song made her smile. It's hard when you don't live close to each other but hopefully future birthdays can be celebrated in person.
