I'm grateful for so many things. The years fly by. In a couple of weeks hubby and I will gather at a local restaurant with friends and celebrate our fifty sixth anniversary. Hubby and I have shared many fine times: he never let his blindness stop him and I rarely thought about it. In those far gone days we knew a Cajun man who owned horses and rented them out by the hour. Hubby and I rode on woodsy trails together and later, we lived in the back of beyond in northern Idaho. Poverty rode our jeans pretty hard for most of our life together but we managed to find ways to eat and have good times, too. This business of being retired is still settling on us. We're living in another area of our state that used to be our vacation place. Both of us are enduring health issues but shouldering the messes together. Sometimes I miss having a wood stove. I miss the charm and I miss figuring how to cook on wood. I know my days of felling trees, chopping wood and splitting it into manageable lengths is over. My days of riding horses and bicycles is kaput. My dragon headed cane continues to help me and my crazy Heeler Rufus is often working beside me, thinking how to best pace with me not in front where he could trip me. I'm grateful for all the gifts given to me through the years. Many people have been patient and kind and sometimes ornery enough to make me stop and consider what path exactly I should be on.

@allknowing I did know. Hubby had incubator issues when he was born and totally lost his sight at five due to an accident. He was majoring in engineering at the university when I first met him- he got around about as good as anybody else and I fell in love and haven't quit.

@allknowing We were so young then. We didn't have a clue on discrimination. We found out the hard way.

Nice seasonable rememberances. It makes me think where would I be without the kindness of strangers? People. can be the best or the worst depending on whom you encounter. Happy Anniversary..you are blessed to have a loving partner.

@snowy22315 You're right. Nobody should be an island. We're all here in this pond together so we might as well help each other. Thank you for your well wishes.
