The Feast of St. Nicholas, celebrated on December 6th, honors St. Nicholas of Myra, a 4th-century bishop known for his generosity and compassion. He is often depicted as a kind figure who secretly gave gifts to those in need, which is why he’s considered a precursor to Santa Claus. In many cultures, this day is marked by special church services, festive meals, and the giving of gifts, especially to children. In countries like the Netherlands and Germany, traditions often include putting out shoes for St. Nicholas to fill with treats. The feast emphasizes the spirit of giving and helping others, reflecting the legacy of this beloved saint.

The spirit of giving and helping others . . . we should have more days reflecting this. I do know of St. Nicholas, but not of this day (do folks in the US celebrate this?).
