Interesting Safari Animals- What's Your Favorite?

I often watch nature shows on TV which focus on wild animals located in Africa. I find their behaviors especially interesting when it comes to finding prey, survival techniques, mating, and raising their offspring.
Which brings me to my question of the day, if you had the opportunity to go on a Wild Safari trip what animal would you most like to see and why?
While you're deciding here are some fun facts on some of those wild animals:
1. The lion, African elephant, leopard, rhinoceros and African buffalo are considered the iconic "Big Five” among the wild kingdom animals.
2. "Hippos" secret a fluid through their skin that turns pink/red in full sun, and eventually brown. The fluid seems to act as a sunscreen. Kind of like having a built-in bottle of Coppertone suntan lotion at your disposal. lol
3. "Giraffes" give birth standing up. Their babies can walk within half an hour and run at full speed in half a day. Birth height: 6 feet, that's taller than I am! How about you?
4. Those ugly "Warthogs" are grazers, living off of grass, plants and berries, and roots and bulbs dug up with their tusks and snout. You’ll often see them kneel while eating to get closer to the ground. The bumps on their faces are not warts but bone and cartilage bumps to protect them when they fight.
Ok, have made up your mind yet? As Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz once said, Lions and tigers and bears oh my!
Well, no bears but here are a few more you might see on a Safari: antelopes, baboons, zebras, hyenas, crocodiles, ostriches and vultures.
***My favorite is the zebra. It just looks like a "cool" looking horse with those black stripes on its white coat.

So sorry. I've been dealing with home issues FW. Broken pipes, leaking faucets and other repairs like replacing kitchen cabinets, sink and counters. I've cut down my time on here quite a bit recently but will try to see what you have been up to with your music picks. I enjoy them as we have a lot of similar tastes in rock/pop tunes.
I'll get back to posting my music favs in time. Thanks for inquiring!
I do find giraffes fascinating too. I mean they are up there in rarified air aren't they, lol. Since you picked giraffes, here are a few more tidbits.
Giraffes sleep for only about half an hour a day, sometimes for just 5 minutes at a time.
If I could do that I'd have more time to spend on My Lot.

i honestly can't pick just one. safari experience is definitely on my bucket list, just because i want to see all these animals in their natural habitat, not in the zoo. they all look sad to me. i saw elephants when i was little, i even have a photo with them, and i saw lions, tigers and zebras in the zoo. so if i had to "choose" just one - then let it be a giraffe because i've never seen it under any circumstances

Yes, there are so many great picks out there on the Safari. Lions are often featured on nature programs. They live in prides of 15 and up to 30. Lionesses do much of the hunting. The males provide protection.
When a male lion takes over a pride, it can kill all the lion cubs to bring the pride’s females into heat again.
Since you choose the giraffe, I have a few more facts for you, lol.
Giraffes sleep for only about half an hour a day, sometimes for just 5 minutes at a time.
Thanks for your input!

@aureategloom Yes, I enjoy learning new facts too. The Elephant is also a contender for least sleep averaging around 2 hours. Being so large they spend much of their time eating.
In contrast, like domestic cats, tigers sleep around 15 hours a day. Male Lions are big sleepers too, averaging up to 20 hours. Guess he's not just the King of the Jungle, lol.
Hyenas jaws are strong enough to eat bones. Though they look similar to dogs, hyenas are more closely related to cats. The female hyenas dominate over the males even the babies. I am woman hear me roar!
African Wild Dog is Africa's most successful hunter. They hunt in packs and take down their prey 80% of the time. In contrast, lions are successful only 30%. These wild dogs are unique in appearance with big
satellite ears and black, brown and white mottled spots on their coat.
Hope that is enough fun facts for you to absorb...

No problem. I'll treat you to an animal fact related to India. Elephants are responsible for 400 human deaths per year through attacks in your country. Elephants are highly protective of their young, so humans must keep their distance. And like many animals they are territorial and feel threatened if you go near their water source.
Thanks for responding..

@allknowing Oh yes, of course. Not blaming the Elephants for their behavior. Humans should always be careful around animals. After all, they are "wild."
Fun fact- an elephant has the largest brain in the animal kingdom; hence an elephant really never forgets.

The tallest and the largest Safari animals' great picks! Both the elephant and giraffe mothers are very protective of their young. A giraffe kick can kill a lion. Elephants have no known predators, although I have seen on nature shows where a lion pride did attack and kill both animal's young in spite of the mother's efforts to protect them.
More Giraffe facts:
Giraffes sleep for only about half an hour a day, sometimes for just 5 minutes at a time.
Getting a kitten is probably a safer choice than some of those Safari animals.

Elephants are a great choice! The largest land animal in Africa they can live up to 70 years. Elephants are highly protective of their young, so humans must keep their distance. Even lions are wary to attack. Their tusks are actually incisor teeth.
Other fun animal facts:
-Leopards are the best climbers of all the big cats. They actually spend the majority of their time high in the trees.

I'm a giraffe person. A couple of years ago I got to hand feed a couple of them. They had their heads inside our car. So cool. I still want to touch one. Have a good weekend.

Giraffe do seem like really cool animals. Quite a thrill being able to feed one. Giraffes are real gentle giants a rare threat to humans as they eat plants.
