Searching for cat two

Six months ago, I've been wanting to adopt a second cat and give Bailey a sibling buddy around her one year anniversary. But many life obstacles stood in the way:GI issues in July, my father's death in late August and grieving his loss, work stress, my brother traveling for work in September and last month, and my colonoscopy almost two weeks ago this past Tuesday. Since I've had Bailey for 1.5 years, I think it's high time to give her a sibling for her early Christmas present.
Months ago, I had a shortlist of both males and female cats I wanted to adopt. One by one, they were adopted and off my list. Some were returned for a reason, back on my list, and then re-adopted and off again. I've talked to a few people at the shelter staff for advice. They said to give her a brother around 4-6 years old, and some said it doesn't matter on the sex. Even some of my friends said a male would be a better match for Bailey, though some kittens, older cats, and female cats wanted me to take them home. I've ruled out senior and special needs/diets cats, even 1 year olds and kittens. So I'm sticking it around 2-6 years and maybe 7-8 years as back-up.
So I'm hoping to get cat two either this week or next week. I have one male cat in mind that I met last week. I've wanted an orange/buff/orange and white cats, tuxedos, even calicos. If he's still there this mid-week, I'm going to bite the bullet and go out on a limb to get him home this week. I don't want to jinx it by showing his picture or saying his name, since I want this slow cat introduction to work out this winter, and hoping it sticks like glue.
Have anyone done a cat introduction before? Any advice to share since I've gotten the most of it online. I've gotten the supplies back in June, and have the space ready. I just need the cat, and finished filling out the application with the date, the vet's name, and the cat's name, too. So keep your fingers crossed for me, and I'll keep you posted.
I hope to do some catch-up commenting on the posts later on this week and more posting.

I have but did it the wrong way...very slowly and gradually is best. Keep them apart until they are comfortable with the other ones scent. And when they feel relaxed. and comfortable..feed them together.
