So, so many cookies, a true marathon!

To be exact, 419 cookies. And son in law is making one more batch of something his Dad likes tomorrow, then the baking is done. They do this every year, and sent them to both sides of their family. It's a big project every year...but it's fun, we spend time together, and then we clean up the mess (the worst part!)
I decorated so many Santa, snowflake, trees, and bells, and gingerbread men, it was crazy. I had to come home and take another shower, I felt sticky. But done for another year!
I meant to take a picture, but I was so sticky and tired, I guess I forgot. This one, I borrowed from Pixabay.
Do you ever have cookie marathons?

Yes I used to do this. I cut it down to a couple hundred.

@porwest By the time they are all mailed out, or passed out to those living fairly close by, there won't be many left. It's just something we truly enjoy doing, and we will probably continue it until we are old, doddering, and/or no longer on earth. Fun times!

We missed having it when they lived in Florida for a few years. Now we are back to our annual cookie day, and we have a lot of fun together doing that.

I did this for a lot of years before I moved where I am now. We took the cookies and swapped around and yes, we all got different kinds of cookies. It was a lot of fun. As soon as we got all of our cookies sorted out, we went out for pizza! Those were fun times!

I've never had a marathon cookie baking day, nor participated in one.
It has always been 1 recipe per day when it comes to cookies.
Squares I could manage a couple in a day.
We are not huge on Christmas cookies, my mother used to make the best Christmas cake and there were always apple, pumpkin, pecan or mincemeat pies. Usually she would make 2 different ones that you could choose from.
Nobody has taken her spot for that talent or tradition.
I usually pick up a couple of pies from the bakery because pie crust is not my strong suit.

@MarieCoyle I'm thinking about going nuts and making caramel sticky yeast buns for Christmas Eve. Oink oink?

@MarieCoyle Forgive me but I don't like American comedy much but on Tuesday we watched 'Surviving Christmas'. The funniest bit was at the beginning where the gingerbread men all had down-turned mouths.

I had fun with our gingerbread cutouts. I made women and men, the women had red skirts with white fluffy trim, and the men had the same, only pants. Red hats and white icing pompom on the hat. Chocolate chip for eyes...used some colored icing for the mouths. Some of them looked wobbly and silly, but we didn't care, it was just fun!

I hope to make some ginger cookies before Christmas, as the son here likes those. I haven't made a gingerbread house in a long time now, they were fun when the kids were little.

I love that!!! We've baked a lot of fun cookies in our time, but have never done the marathon thing. I do have a friend who is very much into her European cooking culture - she is the one who does the marathon baking with all kinds of intricate cookies baked and decorated lovingly in her kitchen. I swear she never sleeps! What a fun family tradition for your family!

@MarieCoyle Yep - that's the most important part - family - happy times and the memories. And I'll bet the cookies are scrumptious. I am curious how they package up the cookies !

We wrapped up about 100 cookies individually in waxed paper. Seriously, we always do. We make up small ziploc bags of assorted cookies and count them out, so that the distribution is fair...son in law uses bubble wrap, and a bubble wrap liner in the cookie box for each person. Amazingly, they arrive at their destination in good shape--but now the mail here has gone to the dogs, so who knows how this years' cookies will be when they arrive to the cookie eaters.

Our decorations are just not that fancy, but I do know they taste good, and to our family, that's what's important. It's just been so much fun over the years to have our ''cookie day'' and talk and laugh and pile up the cookies to be given to loved ones. And we enjoy it so much.

@MarieCoyle The kids grew up and don't eat as much of it now. And I was having to throw stuff out. So only a couple of special things now. I will make buckeyes. And I have a recipe for protein balls that taste just like no bake cookies. I think I will do some of those.

I am not planning on baking many more goodies after all of those cookies. I will make caramel yeast rolls for Christmas Eve, and I always have to make some party mix. I will probably get that done this weekend.

I've made huge batches over the years of this or that. I used to cater big dinners with a friend, and we made a lot of food and baked a lot of goodies. It truly was a marathon.

Yes, it's hard to keep up when there are several people in the kitchen, but we did get it all done, washed, dried, and put away. I never leave until I've helped some with the clean up, no one enjoys that much!

That's a great tradition and I'm sure it's fun and those receiving those delicious cookies are very happy.
I don't make as many cookies these days as I used to but I still make some traditional ones for our Christmas family get together.

@MarieCoyle I love that many of us are still carrying on the cookie tradition at the holidays. I remember certain cookies from my childhood and into my adult years that my aunts, mother and grandmother would make. My mom was the butter cookie queen and my aunt would make these apricot filled cookies that had had a cream cheese dough. My other aunt was noted for her powdered sugar wedding cake cookies. I had all the recipes for those cookies but have never been able to duplicate them as good as my mom and aunts. Mine are okay and still part of the Christmas cookie tradition.

Sometimes it seems that the older I get, the more cookies I make for my family and for others. It's good that you still make some for Christmas.

We always end up with too many sweets, as other people often bring some over or send them to us. I share mine all out until they are gone so that we aren't tempted to eat them all!

Sometimes a person just needs to share, anyway. No one needs as much sugar as the amount that is around them at Christmas.

I bake cookies sometimes, but no marathons. At Christmas, I make sugared peanuts, fudge, and chocolate mint squares (type of brownies.)
I know you all had fun and what very special memories over the years!

We used to call it ''cookie day'' but now we have started to call it the ''marathon cookie day'' because, as my daughter said, it truly is a marathon.
We did have fun, we always do on our cookie day. It did us all good.
