The high school I work at has a free "thrift" store in a section of the media center. The demographics of the student body have changed quite a bit since I was a student and over the 20+ years that I've worked there. They established a place for students to get clothing, shoes, personal care supplies, etc. I never thought to donate anything because. . . well I don't know why. We received an email last week asking for specific items that students want/need. What shocked me was that it also said that 30 students per day visit to get items they need.
So tonight I went through my pile of clothes that I had planned to toss to find things in good condition that I could donate. Same with sneakers. I also found some personal care items that were given to me but that I wouldn't use. They are lavender-scented and I don't like lavender. I wound up with 2 full bags of items to bring in. Some of the clothing items were new with tags. I hope that they will be useful for some students.
