A sweet memory about our wee one

I've written previously about our grandson Nathan and how his mama, Rachel died of a sudden heart attack when he was almost two. Yesterday Dale and I watched some home movies that were converted from old tapes to digital format. Nathan was about three and was such a little monkey. In one film he was cuddled up to our daughter Tammy. It reminded us of the time when Nathan was about four, we were in the back yard when he spotted Tammy walking toward us from the field. He went running to her believing it was his mama. Rachel and Tammy did favor each other with long dark wavy hair. It was so heartbreaking when he realized it wasn't his mama. It still brings me to tears and that was seventeen years ago.

I hadn't remembered that in a long time until we were watching that movie.

@1creekgirl Do they know what caused the heart attack? Was it an undiagnosed heart problem like mitral valve prolapse or something? She couldn't have been very old.

It really was heartbreaking when he realized it wasn't Rachel. But Tammy has been like a mama to him, too, over the years.

At least you have these precious memories in the home movies. I too have home movies but it takes me time to work up to watching them because I cannot tell you how chocked up I get when I see and I hear my late husband,

@JudyEv Right, how do you explain to a baby where his mama is?

@1creekgirl It must have been such a difficult time for you all. Poor Nathan would have been battling to understand what had happened.

Thank you, Marie. We were so blessed to be able to help our son Robert raise Nathan. I was the oldest mama at the school and Boy Scout events, lol. I had just retired a year and a half earlier and I know that was God arranging things so we could take care of Nathan. How is your son doing?

@MarieCoyle Oh my, I pray the surgery will help him. God gives you the strength to take it a day at a time.

@1creekgirl He had a consult with a specialist last Thursday, and it looks like another surgery is in his future. We just take one day at a time around here. Thank you very, very much for asking about him, it means a lot.

It really was hard, but I was so blessed to be his mama for a few years. Robert remarried when Nathan was nine, but they divorced two years later. Since then Robert has been a really good single dad.
