Decorating 101

Today I took most of the day off from work.
I spent the day at playgroup this morning with the girls and my husband. We had a really fun time. This afternoon I made up some cupcakes.
Daddy left very early (before the girls were awake) to take the train to work at his head office. It is a 3 hour train ride and he spent the night in that city, of Toronto. Today they will pick him back up at the trainstation.
I do not think that 'all' was right in the girl's world yesterday. They both love being with Daddy, and having him help them with getting dressed in the morning. He wasn't able to do that yesterday or today. A batch of cupcakes, would surely cheer the girls as well as Mommy and Daddy up.
I attempted to decorate cupcakes with them in September, just before their parents birthdays, but they were clearly too young for it. Now, a month or so before their third birthday, they have much better skills for waiting their turn and for not making a complete mess. It really was decorating 101, followed of course, by sampling 101.

There's really something special about the father-daughter relationship. I was a daddy's girl myself and I remember as a kid, I would spend most of my time with my dad. Even when he was out checking farm lands, I would join him. When he visited different rice mills, I was there with him too.

I share your sentiment, I was a Daddy's girl too.
I remember on rainy days, when my Dad was unable to be in the fields (he was a farmer) he would take me with him to the next little town to see the 'sucker lady' at the fertilizer place. He would have to go in to pay his bill and she would always treat me with a sucker.
I loved going there with him, and after I finished my sucker, I would always cozy up beside him and fall asleep in the truck before we got back home again.
Sweet memories.

@Juliaacv Such sweet memories indeed. My father's family owns a farmland in different places but they're all tenanted. We would visit those farmlands coz my father would check and buy their produce, especially the rice and he would have it milled before having it delivered to other cities. I remember spending my day in different rice mills. They were my playground. None of my brothers were interested in that. I was though. Our family also owned a fish pond and I enjoyed going there with my father as well.

@LadyDuck They are doing a video and have asked Ron and the girls to take clips of them working on specific projects. The administration at the playgroup want to appeal to have more family participation.
I think that they are looking for inter-generational.

@JudyEv Actually today at the playgroup, which is sponsored by the provincial government, one of the heads of it spoke with my husband, as he brings them 5 days a week. She said that they had some specialists there to ask questions of some of the children, as they are trying to gauge their knowledge at various ages. Harper was taken to a little station where there was a lava lamp with colourful fishes and flowers floating in it and asked to show them the brown fish. She didn't hesitate and did it.
They asked my hubby if he would work on a few little projects with the girls, and record it on his phone as they are putting together a package to assist parents and caregivers with working one on one with young children. This all has to be approved by our son and his wife, as it will become a part of their library.
It made him feel good, and proud.

A day of fun! Awww, they missed their Daddy (little ones count on "routine", I guess). The cupcake fun sounds like it was a success - interesting how a few months can make a difference with "skills". Sampling 101 never disappoints .

@much2say Yesterday a couple of his cousins who do not have children yet were asking him and his wife about having them. They discussed it.
A few hours later when he stood to put his coat on and reach into his pockets, he pulled out 3 tiny pairs of Baby Roots socks all balled up and showed his cousins. This is what you carry in your pockets without any thought once you have children, it isn't a concert ticket stub, it is socks in case your toddlers have an accident and need fresh and dry socks.

It really is remarkable how just a few months makes such a difference in their abilities to do something like this. Their fine motor skills are a little more refined plus they have had the experience of doing it once before also.
Daddy is the one that they go to in the mornings, whereas both play with them after they finish work, and then Daddy makes supper and after supper he bathes them, and they both put them to bed.

They really do grow up fast, don't they? They'll get used to the routine when it comes to daddy's work eventually.

@Juliaacv At least it's only once a year, so a change in routine isn't going to kill them.

He actually likes it once a year.
The company pays for his travel time, the train and hotel expense as well as meals are paid for.
They all gather at the office once a year, in December, to hold a bit of an informal working Christmas party.
Our daughter-in-law and the twins have gone with him, they shop while he works, in the past.
