Not doing that

Canada continues on with its postal strike. No mail going through their postal carriers. There are four Canadians on my Yule Tale list. All United States folks should have one by now. I went to Staples to see about my mailing a Yule Tale to those fine Canadian folks. The Tale this year is? 8 or 9 pages in its usual manilla envelope. The clerk carefully took all information. Fine. She got down to the cost and that is where the entire shebang came to a screeching halt. Seventy dollars and change would be needed for a Yule Tale to be mailed. Just a single Tale in a single envelope. $70.00 and change. Four Canadians may be reading a Yule Tale in July for all I know.

That is highway robbery. A couple of weeks ago our news stated that the US postal service had stopped delivering anything to Canada Post because of the huge backlog.

@sallypup I am not really noticing it. All of our bills come through email or they are set up as pre-authorized debits to be paid from our account. I do not use any companies that ship through the postal service, only the ones that use the courier services. It hasn't really affected us here, except for my husband realized the day before the strike that his drivers license and Ontario health card had expired last February, and he had not received a renewal. I took him over to the office and he had his new photo taken, paid his renewals and got his temporary papers for the health card and drivers license. Women could carry those papers in their purse, it is a bit more cumbersome for a man to fold them up and carry them around in their wallet, but that is what he has to do.

What a disappointment. And a ridiculous price.

@much2say My brain wonders if the price was raised cause of the Canadian situation?

I was going to post a book to a MyLotter but the cost was exorbitant. It's a bit different - Australia to the US but I agree that postal costs are outrageous.

@LindaOhio Agreed. I think I could have gone as high as 5 or 6 dollars per envelope but not past 15.

That's just insane. Postage here is wild, especially for packages to be mailed, but $70, WOW.
