One hundred songs I had to pick out of all of the thousands that had charted from 1944. You now know what 99 of them are. Aren’t you lucky. Here’s a gentleman who’s back for the third and final time (I limited the selections to three from any one artist, and anyway, there’s only one song to go ) with today’s song. A Wound Time Can’t Erase - Stonewall Jackson Sorry, Linda, but it’s NOT from that Stonewall Jackson album that has the cover photo of him jumping out of the closet yelling “Surprise!!!!” No, this one comes from I Love a Song, which is an album I’d pack and take to a deserted island with me in a heartbeat. We had that when I was a kid, and I had it memorized. That was 60 years ago, and that album still holds sway over me. A song like “East of West Berlin” is so dated (about a couple who had a fight, and she went to East Berlin then they built the wall) that it could be used as a history lesson. Two great renditions of Roy Acuff songs (“No One Will Ever Know” and “Pins and Needles”) are on it as well. This was one of Jackson’s bigger hits, a midtempo ballad about lost love. Lots of people have covered it (Ricky Skaggs did a version in the early 80s), but the pain in Jackson’s voice makes his version stand head and shoulders above the rest. A Wound Time Can’t Erase Written by Bill Johnson Recorded by Stonewall Jackson From I Love a Song, 1962 Peak chart position: #3 Today’s rock song: “Young Americans” Are you laughing in my face:

This is the kind of song you'd expect to hear on the radio while driving across West Texas at four in the morning, so I give it Four Yups (@NJChicaa, 2024).

I think you would have to demand Faron Young’s “It’s Four in the Morning” at four in the morning. Other than that, you’re right.

Not this one. The general was Thomas Jonathan Jackson, and I don’t think he ever had a country hit.
