Ballroom Dancing

What I see these days on the dance floor are trapeze acts. There are so many reality shows where the best dance is selected and they go by not the grace with which a dancer performs but all the twists and turns one presents. . Ballroom dancing seems to have disappeared. The grace with which the old time dancers performed is nowhere to be seen. The only advantage with modern dancing is that you do not need partners. You can dance away your blues solo.

I am in agreement with you that ballroom dancing seems to be a thing of the past.

When I was a kid, all of us were taught how to ballroom dance. We had an instructor visit our home and my mom and dad would dance and so do we. My parents were frequently invited to a formal social gathering with dancing. And sometimes they'd bring us along.

@allknowing Unfortunately. Formal parties here still have ballroom dancing. And students are taught the waltz to prepare them in their JS Prom which they are required to dance it. It's mandatory.

I am confused as to why today's youngsters prefer those vigorous moves.

Being raised in the Latvian culture I learned ballroom dancing because Latvian organization made a lot of balls and yes, you had to wear evening gowns, I loved that time,
