Non Christmas Christmas Movies

Yesterday I wrote about some of my favorite Christmas commercials. Today I would like to take a moment and write about non traditional Christmas movies, movies that have a Christmas scene or music in it but the movies aren't necessarily Christmas movies, like what the Hallmark Channel plays. My favorite one would be Gremlins. It came out in 1984 and stared Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates. Billy (Zach Galligan) breaks three rules on taking care of his new pet which causes a change in the pet. Why is this considered a non Christmas movie movie? Because the Gremlins at one point go door to door Christmas caroling. Some other favorites of mine include Batman Returns (1992) Christopher Walken plays businessman Max Schreck. As he begins to hand out Christmas gifts, with evil intentions, he opens the box in which the Penguin and his gang are in and they begin to destroy Gotham's Christmas tree. The Sounds Of Music (1965) This movie is associated with Christmas because it was often aired around that time on television. The song My Favorite Thing from the movie is considered in some aspects to be a Christmas song as it has a naughty list--things people don't like and a good list--things people do like. Lethal Weapon (1987) Stars Danny Glover and Mel Gibson who play cops trying to stop drug smugglers. Why is this considered a non Christmas Christmas movie? Because it features a shootout at a tree farm and you can see Christmas lights from a helicopter scene. Hall of shame; Die Hard---just never liked that movie or the sequels Trading Places---On Saturday Night Live Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy made me laugh, not so much in this Edward Scissorhands---never understood the popularity of this movie. What are some of your favorite non Christmas Christmas movies? Which ones didn't you like?

I liked the non Christmas movie called "Paradise Alley" which was the first film Sylvester Stallone directed about three brothers who lived in the poverty of New York City entering the world of professional wrestling with Lee Canalito as Victor Carboni aka The Iceman since he worked as an ice delivery driver with a bout against Frankie The Thumper acted by the late wrestler Terry Funk in a bout at a club called Paradise Alley set around Christmas.

I would say Meet Me in St. Louis with Judy Garland and her then husband Vincent Minnelli. It’s not a Christmas movie per se, but it often airs this time of year due to pivotal scenes that play out at Christmas time. Another would be While You Were Sleeping with Bill Pullman and Sandra Bullock. Big scenes take place at Christmas, and I think of it as a Christmas movie because of that.

I liked Gremlins, but I haven't seen it in ages. I never thought of the Sound of Music as being a Christmas movie.

The Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies and i pretty much have seen most of the movies you listed. Some of them I liked better than others. My time here this month has been sporadic since tts busy getting ready for the holidays. Want to wish you and Mike a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year just in case I don't get back here to wish it closer to Christmas.

I've only seen The Sounds of Music from your list. We're not really big movie fans. We have watched a couple of fairly insipid Christmas movies on Netflix recently.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was a non-Christmas movie without a Christmas theme. A thumbs up rating for sure The Godfather had a scene where Don Corleone was shot while Christmas shopping and another scene showing Michael Corleone shopping for gifts. Great movie! Can't think of one I did not like...

Gremlins would make my list. Have to say that Die Hard would as well. Trading places isn't that bad

I never understood the popularity of Edward Scissorhands either. I can't think of any non Christmas movies at this time. Have a good weekend.
